🧵The Forgotten Team USA

On July 3, 1936, a month before the Nazi Olympics in Berlin, a group of American athletes boarded a ship bound for Europe.

The US team included Black sprinters from Harlem, Jewish gymnasts from Manhattan, and a biracial boxer from Pittsburgh.

The United States government is retaliating against 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his family for having the temerity to challenge their unlawful detention with a habeas petition.

That’s retaliation. This is Kilmar Ábrego García all over again. www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

There was once a plan to run a bus lane and a protected bicycle lanes down Westwood Boulevard. It might have been one of Los Angeles' great promenades. Instead, NIMBYs killed the proposal, and now it's a round-the-clock car sewer where people randomly die in extremely violent ways.

Rental assistance hotlines in the state say calls for help have skyrocketed this year. Some callers say they’re not going to work because they’re afraid they’ll be detained by ICE if they leave the house. Others say a family breadwinner was detained, leaving them struggling to pay the bills.
Minneapolis allocates additional $1 million for rental assistance
The City of Minneapolis will allocate $1 million in funds for emergency rental assistance, as families impacted by the ongoing federal immigration operation seek help paying bills.

🚨HOLY CRAP. The Trump admin just took a SLEDGEHAMMER to due process, largely eliminating the Board of Immigration Appeals process and MANDATING DISMISSAL of ALL appeals (which cost $1,000 thanks to OBBBA) filed after tomorrow unless a majority of the BIA votes to hear the case.

FWIW, I know I am not unique in this opinion, but the model of Mala Jin (women's houses) in Rojava is one that is very relevant for queer folks in the USA who experience homelessness and toxic family dynamics at a significantly elevated rate.

Ppl seem shocked by this because they think BYU is not “woke”. But that’s a puerile understanding of politics. Lots of LDS people have done missions abroad and they have tended not to be as bigoted toward migrants as one might believe if they thought all politics was a choice between 1 of 2 buckets

It cost me $66.70 to get this transcript. Money well spent. I don't need anyone to reimburse me.

But, if you got something out of this transcript, please consider making a $66.70 donation, or even $6.67, to the Midwest Immigration Bond Fund, which posts bond for immigration detainees.

It means the world to me to see people very much engaged with these movements enjoying the book.
My copy of @jamesstout.bsky.social "Against the state" arrived a few days ago but only got to opening it today, maybe appropriate given what day it is.

Am not far through but already it resonates by bringing seemingly disparate struggles together, show links that may not at 1st glance be obvious.
