I realized That I do not have a pinned post about my book! It can seem like a dark time right now, but if you’d like to learn about how people have built a beautiful life for themselves amidst the horrors of war, you can pre order my book! www.akpress.org/against-the-...
Against the State (Preorder)

It means the world to me to see people very much engaged with these movements enjoying the book.
My copy of @jamesstout.bsky.social "Against the state" arrived a few days ago but only got to opening it today, maybe appropriate given what day it is.

Am not far through but already it resonates by bringing seemingly disparate struggles together, show links that may not at 1st glance be obvious.

Apparently there was a city meeting in Hutchins, Texas, tonight. Hutchins is the location of DHS's newly announced 10,000-person concentration camp. What I've been told is that city officials were unanimously and adamantly opposed to it.

Unfortunately, I'm seeing this nowhere online.

There is a kind of man, who is made of straw, and it is very important that you get mad at this man.
There is a kind of left-wing discourse on indigeneity that is basically "Far-right autochthonous ethnonationalism, but make it woke." We should acknowledge past harms of colonialism and pay reparations. But we should not wind the clock back to where everyone's ancestors lived hundreds of years ago.
"no human is illegal on stolen land" is a stupid slogan because of the stolen land part. indigenous peoples, whatever that means, also don't have a right to deny the legal protections of citizenship to foreigners

The number of detainees getting put on ICE flights at MSP has been relatively low the last few days.

I believe this is not on account of ICE pulling back - they still outnumber local police in many towns - but on account of vulnerable people staying home, observer pressure, and lawyer organization.

a distressingly common bluesky experience is posting “This is conspiratorial nonsense” and having many people respond with, essentially, “ok but I believe it”

HUGE. A victory for more than a quarter million Haitians with Temporary Protected Status. A significant majority of them entered the United States legally and have never been out of status since.

Even the Trump admin isn't saying Haiti is a safe country for them to go back to.
BREAKING: Judge Ana Reyes, in DC, issues a stay of DHS Sec. Noem’s decision to end Haiti’s temporary protected status (TPS) designation, a decision that was to go into effect on Tuesday and could have ended legal status for up to 350,000 people overnight. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Get in my replies with good mutual aid fundraisers and I’ll share them.
Tens of thousands of people across Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana have gone a week without power or heat after a brutal ice storm. At least three dozen people have died in connection with the storm, officials have said.
Fear and Anger Grow as Thousands Remain Without Power in the South
More than 30 people have died across three Southern states in connection with last week’s storm, and thousands remain without power.

Lmao the TPM “journalist”
Blocked me. Journalism is when you defend your ignorance by hiding from the truth.
Not to be a dick, but I’ve written a book on the 1936 boycott and it was the subject of my PhD and this isn’t really a useful or accurate comparison.

at the ICE protest tonight in Portland, after we all got gassed, I found what I thought was a zippo pouch. It is in fact a medicine bag, in the indigenous use of the term. I only opened it enough to find that out.

If you know who belongs to this let me know and I can get it back to them.

He has always been pretty consistent about this actually. He was somewhat supportive of BLM and compared Trump to Hitler when discussing the 2018 migrant caravan as well iirc

Amazing that anyone could spend more than a week in San Diego and think the cops or Todd are going to protect people from BP. Utterly infantile approach to politics

Today marks 5 years of struggle in Burma. So many lives lost, and so much liberty gained. Not a single state has raised a finger to help these people and the combined might of Russia and China stands against them. Despite all of that they’re still fighting.

Seeing little children suffering is one of the hardest things about my job. It can result in profound moral injury and has for many of us. If you were out there and this has impacted you, please speak to someone.
I was there, too, and recorded this as people left the scene.

Hard to see in the video, but the baby in mom's arms was also crying with red eyes.

Hi folks! Here's a list of the journalists who have had their work lifted by AltNPS.

This list is VERY much incomplete. A lot of the people affected aren't on Bluesky, and I need to update my master list, but this is a decent way to follow (and credit!) some great journalists.

Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com
