This regards the UK media’s bias but it’s true in the US too where big media like nyt, now joined by Condé Nast, have enabled bigotry, misogyny and predation.
“It’s a clear example of institutional bias, contributing to a climate that harms women, the Trans+ community and gender-nonconforming cis people.” - @jamiewareham.co.uk

5/ Our take @jamiewareham.co.uk

"The report relies largely on media coverage. Not every murder is reported, and in many countries trans identities are not even recorded in official reporting, making these figures an even clearer call to action."

The hearing is a huge blow to the watchdog’s reputation already.

But if it's found to have advised businesses across the UK wrongly on the law (in a way that has led organisations to break the law significant work will need to be done, for businesses to rely on it again 👇
Has the Equalities Minister changed her mind since she said the Supreme Court ruling provided "crystal clear" clarity?

In court last week, she seemed to suggest that the EHRC's guidance – was anything but clear.

What happened and why it matters 🧵👇

6/ Our analysis - @jamiewareham.co.uk: “As the EHRC faces mounting scrutiny from concerns over its use of AI to government rebukes, one question is increasingly being asked across Westminster: has this regulator gone rogue?”

Brianna Ghey: Media must recognise its part in rising transphobia
Following years of media and government anti-trans messaging, a young trans person has been murdered in what appears to have been a targeted attack.

Congrats Jess 👏

This piece of journalism absolutely rocked, and continues to inform, deliver and help people understand the ramifications.

The media and law sectors are vastly better with @jessothomson.co.uk's work, challenging them to be and do better 💪
Feels a bit egregious to post about awards two days in a row, but I have just found out I was nominated for – and have won – an independent journalism award for my reporting following the Supreme Court decision in For Women Scotland for @wearequeeraf.com

Thank you!

False balance is the concept that is also sometimes known as bothsidesism - a nonsense word, which should tell you everything you need to know already.

It sees journalists present issues as balanced between 'opposing viewpoints', even when one position is supported by an abundance of evidence

There was 'technically' an equal amount of LGBTQIA+ trans inclusive organisations, as there were anti-trans respondents, but balancing the numbers isn’t everything:

It’s a trap the BBC often falls into and creates a false sense of balance, when views don't match up with facts

Let's take a look 🧵
Let's look at how Trans+ kids' voices were sidelined in new sex ed 'Section 28 2.0' rules over:

🔴 Sex Matters
🔴 Transgender Trend
🔴 Safe Schools Alliance
🔴 Bayswater Support Group

“It was still clear that they valued other viewpoints (specifically transphobic viewpoints) above ours." 🧵

🔴 Whether a Labour reshuffle will delay any of this?
🔴 Can it be challenged in the courts?
