Getting students using AI positivity in lessons is really important for life. Getting them to think using metacognition (eg the applications and across subjects) is the next big challenge for teachers. We have been using it in our business unit, it is a slow process. #EduSkyAu #EduSky #teachers

Brilliant and insightful article. Matches what I’m experiencing in my classroom. Students who just get the answer or take a short cut are missing the learning. But AI can help learning if used correctly. Worth a read. #edusky #eduskyau #education #schoolai
I wrote about "brain damage" from AI. Despite scary headlines, AI won't hurt you brain, but it can undermine your thinking and learning. Increasingly, however we are finding ways it can help us think and learn instead (some included prompt examples as well). www.oneusefulthing.org/p/against-br...
Against "Brain Damage"
AI can help, or hurt, our thinking

Ideas for AI in the classroom… get students to always share their prompts and then how they used them. Get them to get a 200 word summary woth five links. Use the links and then improve the AI summary #eduskyau #edusky #aieducation #aischools

Easter holiday. Time to recharge the Teacher batteries with a morning walk on the beach. #GoldCoast #EduskyAu #EduSky #Teachers #Education

Easter is a great time to refresh / recharge and get ready for the next challenge : term. Some time planning for the Frontier Wars unit coming up. #EduSky #EduSkyAu #teachers #history #australianhistory
Day 65 of 10 years on #NoPlasters;
Long weekend refreshed? Now is the time to grab stakeholder's energy for new projects. Have great chats today

Clearly Easter was earlier 10 years ago! Leading on from yesterday's revisit, be sure to take a good break this weekend.

Always important to build in thinking time. Stop doing… for a bit… be a human being… as in just be… think… reflect…
When you can’t see the wood for the trees. Take a moment and pick the one tree you are going to deal with next.
Day 62 revisiting #NoPlasters 10 years later;
Build thinking time into learning programmes. This video might help spark ideas www.kairosmodernlearning.com/about/

I still stand by this vid. It's been on my website for 11 years & is still relevant, which means we must go on.

This is well worth a read. It is very true for the classroom and the staffroom. And for everyday life. Find trust, connection and purpose #education #EduSkyAu #teachers
THE ART OF HAPPINESS

What if creative learning communities could do more than teach skills — what if they could foster happiness?

The World Happiness Report 2025 shows that connection & kindness elevate wellbeing.

Post assessments I’ve been trying to get my students reflecting on the skills they applied, what they did well, what they learnt and how they could improve. Most importantly what transferable skills can they name and reuse. #metacognition #teaching #teachers

Been on a course? Make time to reflect, contextualise and discuss the learning. Use it or lose it!

10 years on reflection STILL feels the forgotten part of learning. Without it there's no learning. Remembering, feeling, aligning, shifting. More please #Learning #Development

While Cyclone Alfred is keeping schools closed I’ve been reading this book in between worrying about family, friends and the house. Some very insightful sections, great moments to reflect on teaching / classroom. Would recommend. Now I need to update my QCT training log #selfdirected #EduSkyAu

Any top tips - my self and a colleague set up a rotation 3x20mim. I did a chapter analysis, they did reflection on book cover / blurb and finally they had some independent work support by a teacher aide. What could we do to up the students focus in the independent work section? #EduSkyAu #teachers

Just read article on Edutopia on scaffolding learning (by Todd Finley if you want to find it). Loved the phrase ‘temporary support structures’. It has a list of solid strategies and was a nice reminder of good practice. Help the kids learn! #EduSkyAu #teaching&learning #teachers

Well the places have changed but #EduSkyAu are definitely getting teachers talking
Day 30 of my #NoPlasters review;
Early bird catches the worm, but if you are late, catch up on Storify. Try #LDInsight at 8am Fridays

Well that's a blast from the past. Tweet chats were super useful for connecting & building a #PLN. I'm not sure any space today does that.

Been a great start to the term. Been reflecting on how to make learning most visible to students. Trying to be clear on a few key skills for a lesson and being clear on naming them and how to achieve. Bring in metacognition ideas for building a learning vocabulary #EduSkyAu #teaching #skills

Two weeks into the new academic year I hope everyone is enjoying getting to know their classes. Building clear and strong routines now will make for a great year. Let the students know you care and keep teaching with a smile. Make sure something is learnt every day 😁 #eduskyau #teachers #lessons

Well I’m definitely doing this on Bluesky. Some great ideas and conversations #EduSkyAu
Day 16 of revisiting #NoPlasters;
Rely on your #PLN for great stuff!

Growing a Personal Learning Network, especially outside of your workplace is probably more valuable today than 10 years ago because they help you sort the noise & highlight the good stuff. Love my #PLN

It’s nearly time for the students to return to school. I love the cartoon below. Teachers should aim to have fun and make their classrooms a place of learning. And adventure! So be a little bit Firefly. But remember you still need a Captain #Mal #EduSkyAu #Firefly #teachers

Review your learning strategy with modern eyes. Mirror private life into worklife with YouTube & peer network

Still far too few learning strategies in orgs. But consumer-grade tech & software is very typical now, yet implemented without a strategy!

Back to work. Love the fact that I work in a school that puts students first and realised that supporting the staff is the best way to do that. More time today spent on students as people, thinking deeply and mental health than exams and results. #EduSkyAu #teachers

Reflecting helping students learn and increasing engagement. So going back into ‘feedback culture’ in Visible Learning (Hattie&Clarke) & creating a common academic language in Metacognition handbook(Webb) Anyone recommend any similar books? #EduSkyAu #metacognition #feedback #teachers #newterm
