Ooh the vanishings and slow-burn eeriness in this story are so good

Very true! Also, Cyndi Lauper has a lot of soul.
You know who is a little underrated historically is Cyndi Lauper, she can sing and is genuinely a big old weirdo. That’s the two most important things about modern pop stars.

"I am a children's entertainer who specializes in face painting," writes a woman now in hiding from the federal government for witnessing a state-sanctioned street execution
You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.

Love the lingering eeriness of this unsettling Arctic tale by @kplumhoff.bsky.social in Issue 90 of @smokelong.bsky.social:

Can't stop thinking about number 33 here.
33. All the great stories are about loneliness. Because that's the most relatable thing.

34. Only a very small number of friendships are evergreen. But deciduous friendships can still be beautiful, important, and unforgettable. A chestnut tree isn't a broken pine tree; it's just a different thing.
