For the same reason it took the murders of two white people for a significant portion of white America to suddenly care about Jim Crow violence. Many people don't care about a problem until they see it might impact them.

Very proud of the Denver Broncos. They did not play like a team who had just lost their winning quarterback, and they can hold their heads high. But Sean Paton is going to regret not taking that field goal for the rest of his life.
