This exactly how fascism always works. They make you feel threatened. They tell you the solution is to stop caring about a particular group of people. They strip those people of their rights. They manufacture another crisis to make you feel threatened. Rinse & repeat. In the end they come for you.
Well the slope from “let the elderly and disabled die of COVID” to “let’s trash all the rest of our ethics, morals and laws” was basically a short walk on a flat path wasn’t it?
Huge victory for hungry children 💚
Alongside many campaigners, the Green Party have absolutely dragged the Labour Government to finally end the child cap.

Labour politicians disgracefully defended it for far too long.

This shows why the Green Party membership rising and rising matters.

It’s darkly funny how a decade of attacking “safe spaces” in favor of some sort of social Darwinist fantasy where the strong devour the weak has consistently progressed to the vigorous defense of special enclaves for masculinity.

1/ Almost 20 years ago, an Australian colleague and I asked “what are governments for?” We thought we had an answer.
After today’s budget I’m struggling to learn what THIS government is for.

In 1688, there was a debate over the lawfulness of an order issued by James II to the Anglican clergy to read the King's declaration suspending religious laws. For their refusal to comply and their petition explaining why his mandate was illegal, the King charged seven bishops with seditious libel.

Targeting Kelly is one of those “this is why we’ll win” moments, bc it shows how politically impetuous this admin is.

There’s clearly no adult in the room to say “wait, maybe don’t go after the charismatic war hero turned literal astronaut who ran after his wife was a victim of political violence.”
Mark Kelly: "My wife, Gabby Giffords, meeting with her constituents, shot in the head. Six people killed around her, a horrific thing. She spent six months in the hospital. We know what political violence is and we know what causes it too, The statements that Donald Trump made incites others."

Aside from the high seas murder spree, an order to court martial a sitting senator for 100% legal political speech, and to do so under blatant unlawful command influence, would probably be the clearest case yet of an order so manifestly unlawful there is a duty for anybody in uniform to refuse it.

The military has a duty to refuse unlawful orders, but Congress has a duty to remove from office a president and secretary who would issue such orders. There is something off about members of Congress talking about the former while refusing to say the latter, the part that's actually their job here.

As a society we also need to think about why it's OK to exclude kids from even the limited protections offered by occupational health and safety rules, even in places like schools where they are forced to be present. Kids should be *more* protected than an adult working in a steel mill, not less.

This is bizarre from Hegseth. All they said was that servicemembers owe allegiance to the Constitution & have no duty to obey illegal orders. This is a straightforwardly true statement & not remotely seditious. "Trump says it's seditious" does not make it so.
#HoldFast
Calling them the “Seditious Six” & branding their statements “despicable” before review is textbook definition of prejudgment. No panel, judge, or reviewing authority can claim neutrality once the SECDEF declares the accused guilty. This looks like the procedures used in dictatorships, not the US.
