So happy that my article about the origins and first decades of the Atlanta Police is finally out!

It traces the institutional development of the department, the discourses of Black criminality that underlaid racist policing, and protest against the police.

The answer to Noah smiths first question is of course that everything the United States did against slavery was the result of a radical faction, which had spent the precious 20 years being attacked and killed, managing to seize federal power and win a war

Swing pianist Teddy Wilson made over 200 records for ARC and related companies in the 1930s, notably as Billie Holiday's backing band on Brunswick. Session data now online.

I put on some of the earliest Billie Holiday recordings, with Wilson on piano, Chu Berry on sax, and Roy Eldridge on trumpet. Some of the best music ever recorded

Stoller really is a kind of uniquely dumb writer. Obviously he's right about a few things but he basically lacks object permanence and sometimes it just shines through so clearly
Matt Stoler is the dumbest motherfucker on the planet. Zohran went because everyone knows that Trump's going to try sending the national guard into NYC in January to derail Zohran's time as hizzoner, not to validate Matt Stoler's extremely credulous personal politics.
Matt Stoller: “..Trump & Mamdani defeated establishment in their own way, representing hunger of voters on the right & left who want something different. If those sides cd come together.. that would be a sea change in how we organize our political economy”.

I respectfully disagree with Kyle. Currie says Bondi couldn't ratify Halligan's indictment after the statute of limitations. She does NOT say that a future, validly appointed U.S. Attorney (interim or otherwise) is barred from bringing a NEW indictment under §3288 (she leaves that possibility open).
MORE: Judge Currie basically slams the door on re-indicting Comey here. She notes that "there is no legitimate peg" to extend the expired Sept. 30 statute of limitations. The window for James is a little wider. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

lol the judge who disqualified lindsay halligan as us atty for edva included this footnote, citing a guy who agrees with him (or used to!?!?)

The attorneys for everyone indicted in EDVA since Halligan took over are rapidly writing motions to dismiss right now, right?

ok yeah that makes sense i was wondering about that
