I don't generally consider myself a nasty philosopher, but every once in a while I revisit Nina Strohminger's review of McGinn's book on disgust for the pleasure of a great takedown

Sadly, my attitude towards academic administration.
And the Vogons. Don’t forget the Vogons.

Shamelessly promoting my favorite paper. Everybody who was anybody in the history of science/philosophy/mathematics had a view on the moon illusion. frances-egan.org/uploads/3/5/...

If you are on ICE watch in the Rogers Park vicinity please have a buddy and exercise extreme caution. ICE has assaulted verifiers today and arrested at least one of our people. If you are vulnerable to ICE in this area, I recommend staying inside if possible.

Being a mom to young children is making me rethink a lot of how we perceive mistakes and flaws in others, as a grown person responsible for the wellbeing of helpless little people, I pretty much need elected officials to be at least as competent and informed as your average house wife with a brain.
Today’s Whitman Prize for Multitude Containment goes to the person with three bumper stickers on their truck: a Starfleet emblem, a Prince glyph with angel wings, and one reading “Proud to be everything that pisses off the liberals.”
Surely, when you break, you’ll be accusing them of RICO.

I'm so sick of discourse from supposed allies about where trans people went wrong.

Where we "went wrong" is that billionaires spent unimaginably large sums to attack us repeatedly and major media outlets have spent a decade piling on.

I quit Canvas this semester, print out readings for my students, and we're doing great!
As a 3rd generation academic, my family has been teaching continuously since the 1950s and only the last 20 years involved Learning Management Systems. They’re by no means necessary to the project of learning, and if they demand surrendering autonomy to corporations then they should be discontinued.
Summer trying to hold on:
Saint Peter, population 12000, had over 4000 people!

(Mankato didn’t have their own rally, but including them only gets you another 60000 in population.)
Thanks. That’s probably enough to get me started.

New summer project to help me procrastinate on research!

Happy anniversary to this absolute banger from @aidanmcglynn.bsky.social !!!
Do you have any good resources you could point to?

I’ve been teaching a Theravada Buddhism section in my Ancient course, and I’d love a way to connect it up for the students.
