I see a lot of complaints about untested AI slop in pull requests. Submitting those is a dereliction of duty as a software engineer: Your job is to deliver code you have proven to work https://simonwillison.net/2025/Dec/18/code-proven-to-work/

In all of the debates about the value of AI-assistance in software development there’s one depressing anecdote that I keep on seeing: the junior engineer, empowered by some class of …

Twitter seems important because it has so many eyeballs. I'm not adding my eyeballs to that count.
Since it looks like we're going through the "liberals who stayed on X/Twitter trying to convince others to go back there," I'll just remind folks I already wrote a long article pointing out how that makes no sense and is, in fact, an incredibly dumb idea.

As a reminder, I’m on the board at Bluesky, which means you should consider me extremely biased, even as this article isn’t really about Bluesky. The writer Jerusalem Demsas wants you to stay on Tw…

This piece was a really interesting read. A lot of people coming down in places that I didn't expect. Props to Sup. Fielder, whom I often disagree with on production issues, for saying she'd support all of the Safeway redevelopment proposals, including the one in the Marina.
We asked every S.F. politician about the Marina Safeway proposal. Here are their answers.

This led me to this Cory Doctorow talk, which is very interesting, and while critical of AI, aligns pretty well w/ my (generally positive) views of AI.

San Francisco is awesome. And I think we actually have a street fair about whipping ass.
This is one of those things that I think is quietly important – when these people are talking shit about cities, Portland or Minneapolis or New York or Charlotte or wherever, you have to loudly say, “no, fuck you, you’re lying, that town and its people whip ass and you’re the asshole”
“I walk around Portland, and I go, ‘Fuck you, assholes. Portland is fine.’” - John Darnielle, @themountaingoats.bsky.social. We're proud to claim you as a Portlander, sir.

I'm doubly out of step in that I do like LLMs *and* I don't mind seeing brand accounts on here.
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?
November 26, 2025 at 2:55 PM
This got me to subscribe to The Verge for the year, and it was interesting. One thing it didn't cover is to what extent the AI Boom depends on LLM-based AGI (which has always seemed awful far-fetched to me) being real.
Grateful to The Verge for publishing my essay on why large-language models are not going to achieve general intelligence nor push the scientific frontier.

Is language the same as intelligence? The AI industry desperately needs it to be
The AI boom is based on a fundamental mistake.

To summarize, the #SFGiants made the following moves today:

-DFA'd Andrew Knizner
-Traded for Joey Wiemer
-Non-tendered Joey Lucchesi
-Tendered JT Brubaker a contract for 2026

The 40-man roster now stands at 39.
