Please, parents of disabled and chronically ill kids - do this. Expand your definition of ok! My sister and I have been sick our entire lives and our parents have just stayed in denial. It hurts so much - love who your kid IS not who you wish they would be.
nicolechung.bsky.social
ofc every parent wants their kid to be okay. A big thing for me was realizing that I needed to reconsider/expand my definition of “okay.” And also deal with whatever feelings and fears I had without making those my child’s burden! I can have my experience and my feelings but like, this is her LIFE.

You should be able to take a bus! And frankly it really shouldn’t take much more time than driving! When I lived in London and experienced bus lanes for the first time I couldn’t believe the joy of flying past cars stuck in traffic.
jenwith1n.bsky.social
We need more options. I love my bike but there are times when a really good bus system would be more convenient than my bike. Whatever gets more cars off the road is good for everyone - we do that by making it easier to walk, bike, OR take transit.
hannahr.bsky.social
I swear to God bike people, you do you and I support building better bike infrastructure and all that but every time I post about how the transit system is enfuckulated someone tells me to start biking and just... stop

I know bikes exist

Trust that I have my reasons for not biking to work

[opens any app] WHY DID HE DO THAT?!?!?!?
jenwith1n.bsky.social
When I lived in London some folks from a local Jehovah’s Witness church left a flyer on my doorstep that said: “Jesus died for your sins. WHY DID HE DO THAT?” And I’m forever grateful because now as I read the news every day I hear that in my head and laugh just a little.

Imagine thinking Jews being neurodivergent is because of circumcision and Tylenol and not genetics and the history of the past few thousand years. Stop being weird and leave us alone.
justinbaragona.bsky.social
Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic.

"Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."

At the beginning I had so many questions and by the end none of them mattered.

We are at the terrifying point where Doug Wilson is being interviewed by Ross Douthat, and there is no earnest caveat of his extremism.

I interviewed Wilson in 2020. Compare Douthat's interview and this, and you'll see only one is not normalizing his bigotry:

What kills me is that developers aren’t even thinking about it. Like they know the ADA requirements but they’ve never considered going beyond that, thinking about a wider scope of accessibility.

I just deeply believe that only the public sector is capable of creating truly accessible housing at the level we need. Affordable housing developers are just trying to make things pencil (and not every disabled person qualifies). Private developers are trying to profit. I’m tired.

I met a guy from near my hometown who lives in Minneapolis and he said he buys a ton of bagels every time he goes back to NJ and brings them back with him - I’m going to have to start doing that.
jenwith1n.bsky.social
Oh definitely - I remember all the “crime train” stuff with the SW corridor. It’s so self defeating! Imagine thinking a train would make your life worse.
jenwith1n.bsky.social
I don’t miss NJ, but I do miss good trains!
jenwith1n.bsky.social
I drove to West Linn yesterday for a work thing and it feels wild that we don’t have a train. It was a 45 min drive home at 4 PM - it’s only 14 miles! Say what you will about NJTransit but where my mom used to live there was a train to NYC (20 miles) that was quicker than that.
jenwith1n.bsky.social
Same. It gave me a sense of belonging and Jewish joy I had been missing for a long time.

I heard (from a lady in the gym locker room) that the school finally moved, but I have not confirmed it. Not great either way!

According to the memo, '“It’s like a war zone. There are times I’ve had to have a gas mask on inside my own home,” says a resident near the ICE facility under siege in south Portland'

I mean, yeah. Perhaps the federal government should simply STOP using chemical weapons without provocation?

Just found out my office apps weren’t automatically updating so I’ve been working in a version from 2022. Just downloaded the new ones and what in the graphic design is my passion is happening at Microsoft? Why is everything white on white???

Once again, thank goodness for charter reform. The latest batch of texts make me glad we voted for a new form of city gov’t, and for these progressives in particular. I’m glad smart, savvy, progressive councilors are working together

Dessa is my current favorite, and I don’t listen to enough music to say she’s the greatest living but, “I mostly gave more than I got tried not to watch the ticking clock like always a bridesmaid never an astronaut” is my favorite lyric of all time.

I’ve driven my tiny car like 300 miles total this year because almost all of my trips have been by ebike and I wish they would put that on the comparison chart because the cost is absolutely negligible.

we charge our hyundai ioniq 5 around once every two to three weeks at a muncipal charger and i’d say it runs about $9 for 250 miles of range.

Today marks the two-year anniversary of the horrific October 7 attack.

As we mourn the 1,218 lives lost that day, let us also keep alive the dream of a lasting peace and a better future for all.

Ceasefire now. Every hostage must come home. And a safer world for everyone.
