Thune is lying here. Trump and Vought didn’t “hold off for as long as they could” because shutdowns don’t force people to be fired. No one was ever fired in any of the previous shutdowns in history. They fired a bunch of people because they wanted to — like they’re been planning since February.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune responds to OMB head Russ Vought’s post “the RIFs have begun,” telling @jordainc.bsky.social and I:

“Well… I think they held off for as long as they could.”

Tesla is a perfect case study on why quality and safety regulations are good and poor enforcement because a company is ‘cutting edge’ is bad.

Also we should start indicting executives.

Pfizer "secured a three-year grace period from President Donald Trump’s promised tariffs on pharmaceuticals" and in return will "sell some drugs at a 50% average discount on a direct-to-consumer website called TrumpRx"

New pottery finishes! The vases were a check-in project to see how we were doing after our summer break: the beige-pink one is mine, the blue-green one is @jeremiahgenest.bsky.social ’s. The sake bottle is mine from before the summer break, but it was the unfortunate victim of a kiln malfunction
A ceramic bouquet vase with beige glaze with white streaks and brown speckles on the outside, and a rose-colored rim The same vase with a focus on the interior, which is glazed in stripes of lighter and darker rose A ceramic bucket-shaped case with a blue-black glazed interior. The exterior is layers of sky blue at the top, and green with dark blue speckles on the bottom A small ceramic sake bottle with streaks of grey and brown, and white, unglazed sections. The base is kind of messed up. Again, it was the victim of a kiln that wasn’t heating properly.
