Because they were screening a documentary about Hind Rajab, one of thousands of Palestinian children killed by the Israeli army.
This image is from Birzeit University in the West Bank which was raided by Israel today using live ammunition and tear gas.

Over 40 people were injured, mostly students.

More than 8,000 students are trapped inside.

But it’s controversial to talk about scholasticide.

A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

This article analyses AI-generated lesson plans and finds that they predominantly emphasize lower order thinking and passive citizenship (lower levels of Bloom's taxonomy) and lack multicultural content - e.g. lesson plans about US civil rights that don't mention any Black civil rights leaders.

BBC journalists have been banned from describing the kidnapped Venezuelan leader as having been kidnapped.

The BBC News Editor has sent this to BBC journalists.

Not sure how bad the deepfake problem is? Read Stella's farewell thread.

This is an extreme form of remote sexual harassment that can now be used to target anyone, regardless of platform, in seconds. Despite news stories focusing mostly on CSAM it's still unchecked and rampant on Twitter.
I‘m discontinuing my social media use for the foreseeable future and I want to explain why.

I woke up in the new year to discover that some guy on here had saved photos I took on New Year’s Eve and used Grok to remove my clothes. I know this because he showed me.

2025 goes down as the ~3rd-warmest year on record (based on ERA5).

Like in 2024, every single day this past year was warmer than the average of even the most recent reference period (1991-2020).

For all that the media has spent years freaking out about what social media does to our brains, I don’t understand why there appears to be little effort to grapple with the fact that these chatbots are, for some not insignificant portion of the population, literally psychosis machines

Don't forget folks: allowing yourself a vision of the future you'd want for our country and planet - not the one you'd settle for, not the one you fear, but the future of your dreams - isn't naive, it's a vital cognitive skill. That's how we articulate what we most value. What's worth fighting for.
Instead of whatever this is, we should have a government getting lots of new homes and apartments built, lots of clean energy built, lots of high speed rail and transit and bike lanes built, human rights for everyone, economic & healthcare opportunities for all, & innovation that leads the world.

Israel vs football - ordering the demolition of our football pitch in Bethlehem, the only place we feel free, where we play, belong – even with the separation wall looming. FIFA and UEFA can stop this, but only if the world is watching. Bulldozers could come any day secure.avaaz.org/campaign/en/...
Don’t bulldoze our pitch
URGENT: Children in Bethlehem are about to lose the only place where they can play and feel safe. Help them reach FIFA before Israel destroys their pitch. Sign and share.

just so it's clear: this is the exact core function of genAI

Fascist government and climate deniers love it because it can produce the aesthetics of knowledge without any actual tendency towards truth. It is automated denialism.

Shame on every climate scientist promoting its use (there are lots)
Bob and I were among the hundreds of researchers that were supposed to conduct the 6th U.S. National Climate Assessment. Now it looks like they're gonna produce it with a few people and Grok? Communities need rigorous and accurate information about climate change. This will put communities at risk.
