It’s a place called Monster Arcade. I have some decor notes in general but an amazing mix of retro, indie, and Japanese cabinets. Also there was this room.

I forgot moderate a panel @uscgames.bsky.social put together for its students about the indie games space, and it was so inspiring. I miss being fully in that world and able to work on games full-time. But I’m grateful I get to be surrounded by it every day.

I also described a scene from my adolescence in New Mexico and watched it get the perfect Breaking Bad treatment, but weirdly accurate in its conjuring of myself in 1997 from only a verbal description typed with thumbs- and this absolute weapon cannot remain unregulated for ten years.

It shows that blatant lies and attacks on media, especially, cannot be ignored. It provides a series of adapted techniques on how to respond.

This is about to be a time of alliances. We should make some. Small groups should stick together, veteran ronin and our industry legends could get a new breed and a new model through doors that have been closed to them.

I’d like to make some new friends. Find old friends. And make a plan.

I believe smaller independent studios that are still creator-owned and get the bulk of their money from the sales of their games and merchandise have a bright future in this moment. Just as I believe a lot of the talent about to be jobless would do well to lend their cred to those studios. 2/3
