What one needs to bike in most of Worcester now:
1. A bike
2. Heroic bravery
3 Comprehensive health insurance

What one needs to bike in Worcester with proper infrastructure:
1. A bike

For all the people who say “I never see anyone biking in Worcester, we don’t need bike lanes” look! LOOK!!! Literally build it and they will come!!
The latest evaluation of bike lane projects in Boston continues to show that if you build bike infrastructure, people will use it.

I can’t stand when you tell someone the city you live in, and that you like it, and they‘re immediately dismissive, saying how terrible it because they once lived in a problematic apartment. My dude, those exist in every city everywhere

I was catching up on reading "Kagurabachi" and it's just terrible the pressure manga artists are put under to output chapters -- like multiple panels in some recent chapters were little more than stick figures! And I know it's because of their weekly deadlines

“Twinless” was quite an … interesting film (but good!)

Yup. If you want competitive elections with people from all walks of life running for office, they need to be paid appropriately. Why would someone struggling to get by, run if they are compensated inadequately or have to continue their day job and can’t dedicate appropriate time to their position?
ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up

I’ve gotta say, “knowing things” is it’s own form of hell, as “knowing things” means you know when things ARENT happening, and that things COULD be happening (and therefore make life better for everyone)

What’s with the Southbridge town council voting against joining regional police/fire dispatch? The police chief there argued it was a benefit as it would always be fully staffed. I don’t quite understand the argument for voting against? #mapoli

weird that "listen to city pop" is a cheatcode for "get office work done" but maybe that's been the whole point

The mega dungeon restaurants in @friends-table.bsky.social‘s Perpetua
the problem with modern videogame rpgs is they don't have quests like the one in phantasy star, where you need to bribe a governor with cake, but the only cake shop in the entire solar system is on a different planet, at the bottom of a four-floor dungeon, behind a locked door.

Sharing one of my slides from my “70 minutes on chapter 70” presentation because EASILY one of the most misunderstood things is the relationship of the Prop 2 1/2 cap.

Local required contribution to schools changes by the DoR measured local revenue growth, which includes MORE than that 2.5%

To add to this quickly, many communities are having problems with the 2.5 limit. West Boylston, for example, had an override vote in 2024 (that failed), and noted at the time that it couldn't keep using one-time sources (i.e., free cash) to make up gaps when costs for schools outpace rev growth
Speaker from Rutland: “had to do prop 2.5 last year and this year had to tap free cash to help pay for schools”

Should be noted tapping into free cash too often can definitely be a problem — it’s not limitless
