OPINION: "More than two centuries later, another Jewish community—this time in Jackson, Mississippi—awoke to a similarly gut-wrenching scene on Jan. 10," Daniel Stein writes.
Opinion | Mississippi Synagogue Arson Recalls Our Long History of Resilience

The current regime took a week to abolish USAID, which is three times as old and was not in the news every day for brutalizing children
“We cannot just abolish ICE!”

Bestie, you are older than ICE.

the people who want you to believe that generative AI can paint like Picasso tend to gloss over the fact that Picasso didn’t have hundreds of Picassos to learn from. He had to make something new, which a model trained on old art is definitionally incapable of doing.

"As the nation’s only Black governor, I can’t ignore that being singled out for exclusion from this bipartisan tradition carries an added weight — whether that was the intent or not"

DID YOU KNOW?

If you have Delta Sky Miles, you can donate them to help a kidnapped-and-released person fly home!

They are set free on the streets of El Paso or another Texas town with no phone, no money, nothing at all. Your miles can get them back to their loved ones!

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

lol I don't think a lot of white people believe that Black people are reliable narrators of our own stories.

And IMO this comes from white people wanting to downplay how much anti-Black racism shapes Black people's lives.
How do white people delude themselves into believing that they can identify anti-Black racism better than a Black person? Enough to refute the validity of a Black person’s claim of anti-Black racism??? Like…how does one get to that level of ability to lie to themselves?

I think the Olympic ideal of peace and harmony is best captured by a room full of people, all from different countries from across the globe, booing JD Vance together.

May he be greeted by such vocal harmony every day.

I have made... a mistake. Each auction lot had 8-12 photos, so I assumed that was the number of pieces in the lot.

It was merely a sample. Each lot contains 100-ish pieces.

I won three lots.

Some parallels here to what’s come to light about Korea’s adoption program. As in Korea, the Guatemalan state has begun to acknowledge historical problems and abuses. The US has not.

This is one of the best visual representations I have seen of how Italy is actually a bunch of smashed together societies (as are all nation states because borders are very pretend and also enormously consequential).

And notice, really REALLY notice, how every single aspect of our society is designed to keep us constantly overwhelmed with awful information.

That doesn't mean close your eyes and pretend it isn't real.

It does mean know the difference between staying aware and repeatedly traumatizing yourself.
