I think the Olympic ideal of peace and harmony is best captured by a room full of people, all from different countries from across the globe, booing JD Vance together.

May he be greeted by such vocal harmony every day.

These are so great! I love a good foldable fancy walking stick... Might need a galaxy cane to keep in my travel bag.
Happy Black History Month!

It costs 0$ to Repost a Black disabled queer small business! It could lead to my next sale.

These carbon fiber foldable walking sticks are lightweight and strong. You can fit them in a bag! And they come in 3 great patterns!!!

Red Wine & Blue now has more than 600,000 members. Its members and affiliated groups held 4,000 events last year, most of them in person. On Tuesday, they raised more than $100k in less than an hour to support Haitians in Springfield, OH & oppose ICE. 19thnews.org/2026/02/wine... via @19thnews.org
The original ‘wine moms’ are in Ohio. They’re mobilizing to support Haitians in Springfield.
Katie Paris founded Red, Wine & Blue to harness suburban women's political power — now more than 600,000 members are deploying it to oppose ICE in their communities.

I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.

Great work everyone.

This thread is honestly everything great about the internet. Replies and all.
I have made... a mistake. Each auction lot had 8-12 photos, so I assumed that was the number of pieces in the lot.

It was merely a sample. Each lot contains 100-ish pieces.

I won three lots.

Regarding the Discourse, lemme just say that if you can't draw, yes you can.

Everyone can draw, and folks will almost certainly respond more positively to your stick figures than some generic "A.i." slop.

“At the peak of the adoption boom in the 2000s, one in 100 Guatemalan children was put up for adoption abroad.”

Some parallels here to what’s come to light about Korea’s adoption program. As in Korea, the Guatemalan state has begun to acknowledge historical problems and abuses. The US has not.
Torn Asunder | Oscar Lopez
As Guatemala and El Salvador were being torn apart by violent US-backed regimes, tens of thousands of children—many of them war orphans, others forcibly taken from their birth parents—were being adopt...

This is one of the best visual representations I have seen of how Italy is actually a bunch of smashed together societies (as are all nation states because borders are very pretend and also enormously consequential).

This Friday is Fridaying hard. I have actually gotten ahead of a lot of tasks this week and am having so much trouble getting the last 5 or 6 little ones across the lines. The ADHD brain fairy is like "you have done enough this week" and also "you need to stress all weekend about not doing enough."

And notice, really REALLY notice, how every single aspect of our society is designed to keep us constantly overwhelmed with awful information.

That doesn't mean close your eyes and pretend it isn't real.

It does mean know the difference between staying aware and repeatedly traumatizing yourself.

One of the dangers in attributing the Epstein horrors only to conspiratorially networked power is the inability to confront the ways it has (and does) happen in our own communities, with comparatively much less power. As Derrick Bell and George Carlin taught us- consider interest convergence. (1/9)

Honestly, the info system is so overwhelmed and broken right now between the enshittification and just complete brain breaking horrors. One good indicator of this is that I can't remember another time in which a famous news anchors' mother being kidnapped and ransomed wouldn't be inescapable news.

Was driving my kids to school and the first thing on the radio was reporting about Trump's video depicting the Obamas as apes and I think many people still don't fully appreciate what it means to have to raise Black children in a country where the president is so brazenly and consistently racist

He's racist, we been knew that. That's what the conniptions over "woke" and "DEI" and immigrants and everything else has always been about.

You wanna be useful? Rebuke this shit with deeds and hire us. Stand with us. Respect us and our leadership.

I don't need pity or condolences. I need a job.

20% of the students at Justice Page Middle School in SW Minneapolis are attending remotely b/c they're terrified to leave their homes. Their families can't work & rent is past due.

Parents at Justice Page are trying to raise 100k to cover the needs of 50+ families — can we raise 10k of it?

I have good coverage with my employer subsidizing plans at 100% for individuals and I only have a spouse and 1 dependent and I pay almost 1500 a month (pre tax out of my check). With a pretty big deductible.
for partners, kids still covered. Changed jobs, had to pay around $175 or so month for a far, far worse plan (employer roulette). Extra for dental and vision. Family of four. ACA and it got a bit more expensive but not much. (No more preexisting clauses.) Last 10 years, costs have skyrocketed.
