Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

I don't even like GREEN KNIGHT like that, but everytime I see a trailer for this I get gassed up. One might say millennial cultural imperialism is like, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON getting a live action remake for no reason but this my shit right here.

THE MOMENT: v weird to make a 2hr movie with much less drama than a 41 minute album. the more one knows about charli's career the less the movie works. An uncanny zone between 'not funny enough' (tall order) & 'not sincere enough' (charli's wheelhouse). bless the effort tho

I, for one, am enjoying the Detroit Pistons' swift transition from being 'so bad at basketball it's not fun to watch' to 'so good at basketball it's not fun to watch'

was all for giving TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE the benefit of the doubt (Seyfried, honourary canadian, can sell feverish belief like few can) but Fastvold / Corbet should have learned how to write a movie with a single moment of levity in it before they figured out how to balance a budget

"The format didn't die, they’ve just found a way to shed its labor costs. This strategy seems to replace union-protected talk shows with non-union "video podcasts" that serve the exact same corporate PR playbook."
Netflix picked up a Pete Davidson "video podcast" which isn't really a podcast as it doesn't have an RSS audio portion. Hmm... This got me wondering about the deals.

Check out my full piece analyzing this trend & how it could hurt writers/actors/crews. writingandwhatnot.com/blog/podcasts
Podcasts Without Union Protection — Writing and Whatnot
Are streamers like Netflix and Amazon are rebranding talk shows as "podcasts" to avoid union contracts? Which celebrities will get caught in this labor loophole? Let's dig into it...

award show season. weirdest time of the year where the most common refrain you'll hear is "I don't know any of the movies/musicians/shows nominated" wielded as an immediate small talk killer instead of a rich conversation starter

Let us not forget that Catherine O'Hara was hired for "Saturday Night Live," spent a week there, decided it sucked, quit, and went back to Canada to make more shows with her friends.

28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE (Da Costa, 2026): I'm gonna have to check the logbooks, but I don't think I've ever been in a movie screening before where someone cackled at a crucifixion. That takes a lot of skill to pull that off.

THE CHRONOLOGY OF WATER (Stewart, 2025): someone walked out in the first 5 minutes. silently said "fuck the $16 ,keep it" even after sitting through like 15 different production company pre-rolls. that's some strong, distinctive filmmaking
