Thank God for Bluesky
Yes, it's eager. Yes, it's censorious. But it has the very considerable advantage of not being fascist.

A mega-thread by @torstenbell.bsky.social, author of "Great Britain? How We Get Our Future Back" (& Government Minister who hopefully will rise further), on how the government's economic policies are, methodically, focusing on improving productivity & economic growth. Worth reading the whole thing.
Rightly lots of debates about growth this weekend - rightly because it was low productivity growth that saw wages entirely flatline during the 2010s.

Joe Orton and his murderous lover, Kenneth Halliwell, were imprisoned for defacing the covers of library books. Borrowers were pissed off because the contents did not live up to the promise of the “ defaced” covers.

Having bought a 1935 Packard hearse for £30, aiming to turn it into a hot rod, Pete Townshend was shocked when it was towed away at the order of the Queen Mother, who drove past it daily from her home at Clarence House and felt it to be an eyesore.

I was talking only the other day about how funny I found Lukas Moodyson's Together (2000). At the time of release it was criticised as being anti-American. Anyroad, I picked it up at a local charity shop which has a 3 dvd for a quid(3) offer. Funny to find it so soon after recalling it!

I love this so much. Macaulay Culkin carried that movie on his back. Remarkable for a child actor. Plus it still holds up!
The best thing I learned from Macaulay Culkin at last night’s Home Alone screening is that his 4yo son loves the movie, thinks of himself as Kevin, and has no idea that that’s his dad. Culkin is attempting to hide that fact for as long as possible
