I was so excited about Hi-Fi Rush finally getting Denuvo patched out, only to discover that they are just replacing it with VMProtect. That is so disappointing. DRM is worthless, doesn't stop piracy, only punishes legitimate customers, and adds to game costs. It needs to go the way of the dinosaur.

The indie dev scene is probably one of my favourite areas for finding new games. That's not to say AAA companies don't put out good ones, but it feels more the exception than the rule. Too often, large publishers stick to what's safe and take few risks. I get it, but it leads to boring experiences.

Anyone else remember when Toys R Us used a "ticket" system for video games? It made you feel like you were on a quest through the store to actually purchase a new game.

It doesn't seem like much, but there was something so special about it.💫

I really need to get a couple of 1TB NVMe SSDs soon. One to upgrade the base storage on my desktop PC, and the other for my home server. I don't mind using an HDD for data, but I'd rather the OS on both using solid state. Hopefully, I can find a good price. Screw companies who support LLM slop. 😡

It's exciting news that Hi-Fi Rush is finally dropping that garbage Denuvo from the PC version. I wish more titles would do that. Unfortunately, Atlus and @rggstudioen.bsky.social have been keeping it on their games. That is such a downer. It's why I don't buy on release day, and wait for sales.

I've really been putting an effort in to wear my new glasses. The difference between them and my old pair is noticeable. I am very happy with the purchase. Warby Parker make quality frames, and well worth the price. Being able to adjust between distances without focusing trouble is very new to me.

Woohoo! My new glasses arrived in the mail. They are really nice and surprisingly comfortable considering they are right out of the box. Now that is one less thing on my "needs to be purchased" list. I can start shopping around for 3D printers. I would like a good one for project ideas around here.

I've been dedicating more time to the game Look Outside, as of late. It's such a unique experience and a title of which I highly recommend. It's a good allegory for not judging a book by its cover. It also has a strong message of empathy and compassion towards others who might be different from you.

I'm finally caught up with the latest episode of the Mighty Nein, and so far, it's staying consistently good. The changes are taking a little getting used to, but it's remaining faithful to the spirit of the campaign. Nott and Jester remain my favourite characters, but all of them are compelling.

It keeps snowing out, and it I just keep hoping that the roads remain okay to drive on. Definitely one of those days where I wish I could stay home. Winter isn't horrible, but having to constantly shovel is a pain. Oh well, at least it's good exercise. I have to give it that much credit. 😅

I'm really tempted to buy a copy of Reanimal soon. I am a fan of Little Nightmares 1 and 2. So, it would be nice to support the developers of those. While the third game wasn't bad, you could tell the huge difference in look and feel of it compared to the original two. The new game looks amazing.

I've been considering looking into getting some new licenses lately. Mostly my shortwave radio, drone and private investigator ones. It could be fun to get certified in all three. At least one can be done online, the other two might be a little trickier to get. I'll have to look into that soon.

This is just one of those days you want to stay inside with a hot cup of cocoa and warm blanket. I might setup a space for that and tinker with some code on my ThinkPad. Either by writing my own, or finding a project on @github.com. I know the original Zork source was released. That could be fun. 🙂

Woke up this morning feeling a little down. I'm not sure why and it sucks. Maybe I can make some soup and try to relax a bit. I need to look up for a decently priced NVMe and PSU for a home server soon. This build is only missing those. A larger capacity HDD can be added later. It's a fun project.

Communities need used-book shops.

As the trends in our world are increasingly standardized and entrenched by "predictive" technologies that stifle innovation and reduce human actions into economic categories...

We need a full range of possibilities for readers and communities to explore and share.

I've finally ordered my new glasses, and they should be here in a couple of weeks. It's been over a decade since I've gotten new ones. It turned out cheaper than I was expecting them. Now, I can start getting holiday gifts. Maybe I'll treat myself to something nice as well. The new Doom is on sale.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends.

While it was last month here, a sincere happy thanksgiving to those celebrating it today. I hope for it to be a day of peace and appreciation for any good fortunes one might have. As for me, it's a day of jam sessions and hopefully quiet afterwards. I could go for a turkey and stuffing sandwich.

I've been hitting up Look Outside lately. I really love what the game does. It's a great allegory for not judging a book by its cover. That coupled with the insane cosmic horror visuals is genius. This is why I love the medium of video games. Also why they're a valid form of artistic expression.

I really want to get my hands on Silent Hill f at some point. It's enthralling by how good what I've seen of the game does. While I wish it involved the town, it still captures what makes the series fun. Perhaps, I can treat myself to it next month. It's available on @gog.com and that's awesome.

Sometimes it is like the world is moving in slow motion, and in other times, faster than light. The perception of time is wild to me. It almost feels like further evidence that it's relative. I realize time *is* relative, but my point is that it's a weird sensation to experience. It feels personal.

Oh, yay. It snowed last night. So long as I don't need to shovel yet, then it's not so bad. I wanted to do a drone run, but that's out of the question now. That's okay though. It's an excuse to stay in, light the fireplace, and have hot soup. This is a good day to just relax and unwind a little.
