I hope you are right. But sadly, too many of the Irish people I spoke with in October and November were all too happy to scapegoat immigrants and refugees.

We are watching the concept of reality slip away before our eyes...
This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

The ACA isn't just "health care for people who don't have a conventional employer." It also disallows something that was incredibly common 20 years ago, which I fear is getting lost to generational memory: insurance companies could deny you health care for essentially any previous health problem.
I'm dubious about Amazon's commitment to keeping pre-existing conditions a thing of the past.

As it turns out, the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun *isn’t* a good guy with a gunβ€”it can be a good guy *without* a gun. Just another NRA lie.

Looks like we've become complacent since the gun restrictions of the 1990s - time for even more stringent rules. The worst gun violence in Australia in 30 years...
Australia had the β€˜gold standard’ on gun control. The Bondi beach terror attack may force it to confront its surging number of weapons
There are now more guns in the community per capita than in the aftermath of the Port Arthur massacre, with at least 2,000 new firearms lawfully entering the community every week

Here’s an article from this year with the Australian gun lobby boasting that, with surging gun numbers, it was winning the fight against firearms control advocates. Blame guns. Blame anti-Semitism. Blame terrorists. Do not blame everyday Australians who marched for peace.
Australia’s gun lobby says it’s β€˜winning’ the fight against firearm control as numbers surge
There are now more than 4m guns in the community – almost double the number recorded in the years after the Port Arthur massacre that prompted a national crackdown

My plan is this β€” let Congress members buy their insurance in the same way they are proposing for others.
Rand Paul: "My plan is this -- let people on the Obamacare market, which is about 4% of America, a small number of people, let them buy their insurance through Costco, Sam's Club, Amazon ... "

Why would the NYT publish such hateful garbage? Why elevate this man with a history of writing anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian hate?

Again, using a tragedy to promote extremism, hate, and justify Israel's genocide.

Heroes and Hatemongers: The Bondi Beach Terror Attack Invites Solidarity and a Rejection of Bigotry
The horrific terror attack at a Hanukkah celebration in Australia is the worst of humanity, radicalized by hate, but also reflects selfless bravery and decency that represents the majority.

Say Bovino is going to jail! Say he is unAmerican, a hateful scumbag, and say we will dedicate ourselves to prosecuting him. Have no fear.
