On the 23rd of November of 1963, at around 5:15 pm, the BBC aired "An Unearthly Chil", the first episode of a series of a sci-fi family show, that'd use time travel to teach children about science and history, and the rest as they say, is history (pun 100% intended).

WE FOUND IT! We trekked day and night through tiger-patrolled Sumatran rainforests accessible only under permit for this: Rafflesia hasseltii. Few people have ever seen this flower, and we watched it open by night. Magic.

It takes 225 million years or so for the Solar System to make one orbit around the galaxy. Sharks evolved long enough ago that they’ve done it twice.
