Dad, lover of nature, ecologist, and sometimes evolutionary biologist. Also like dogs and cats!
After over 19 years, I have left the University of Aberdeen. Sad to leave some great colleagues there but excited to explore new challenges and opportunities. Open to suggestions - get in touch 😊

Latest poll puts Greens just two points behind Labour. When I said we weren't here to be disappointed in Labour but to replace them, I meant it.

Join us and let's make hope normal again.

Completely agree. It hugely reduces the value of the substantial time invested in reviewing grants. Just been on German and Portuguese panels, and many of best proposals were resubmissions, some improved massively following revisions based on reviewers comments.
This is a huge mistake. My experience on NERC panels is that resubmissions score higher and are more likely to be funded: the review process improves good proposals that should not be lost (along with the time spent on them).
Really disappointing new policy from NERC banning resubmissions of grant applications

Many of us, including me, have won grants on resubmission,

using the reviews to improve the application

This is is neither fair nor productive

What an amazing culmination of knowledge on Andean pollination biology, and a great team effort, led by the incredible @cristinaruedau.bsky.social
Happy to be part of this effort led by CrisRuedas and the caminos network, which has just been published today. In it we review what has been done on pollination research in the tropical Andes and propose new lines of research. Pollination onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

The transphobe position being expressed here is that autism sometimes causes people to falsely believe they are trans and that it's impossible to be both trans and autistic.

This is of course false and is just another excuse to assert state dominance over trans lives.
FUCK OFF YOU ARSEHOLES.
There is only so much professionalism, particular as a non-binary, autistic, individual, I can muster at the moment. Stop treating us as if we are "broken" as if we are "wrong". How hard is it to accept us as us? I want to cry at the way we are talked about.

Right now in the UK being an ally or comrade to trans people will mean being willing to challenge and upset various people in your workplace, your sports club, the various institutions you are part of. Despairing or posting solidarity on social media won't help without also doing the hard stuff.

It is an important time to support our trans family, friends and colleagues. A wonderful turnout of wonderfully diverse people in Aberdeen today.
