“Give us our money back!” New rallying cry just dropped.

Seriously though - how does one facilitate a tax revolt?
Walz: "We have a federal system that we're all in it together, we help other states when they need it, but we have a situation where they're trying to divide us & provide specific aid to states that they like at the moment, which is absolutely unconscionable... either that or give us our money back"

A microcosm of Trumpism and its pea-brained, cruel worldview
This week, I've talked to several Houstonians w/WILD survival stories from the Texas floods.

Turns out, out-of-towners were left esp. vulnerable, almost by design - county officials avoided some flood alert systems they saw as costing locals $ and only benefitting tourists/"crazy Houstonians."

Despite Indiana's horrid politics, I was always proud to work for IU, and when I was there it was consistently ranked among the top state universities in the nation. What's happening now will ruin it, and the beautiful city of Bloomington along with it. Absolutely tragic and enraging.
It's hard to avoid recalling this passage from the English historian Tony Judt:

A tad hyperbolic, but not much. Aaron, you’re in the twin cities. The green line is a cesspool. Is it too much to ask to be able to take my kids to a twins game without watching drug use and/or dodging excrement?
Duffy: "If you're liberal, they want you to take public transportation ... the problem is that it's dirty. You have criminals. It's homeless shelters. It's insane asylums. It's a work ground for the criminal element of the city to prey upon the good people."

Putin is…right
Putin on Greenland: "It would be a great mistake to believe that this is just some eccentric talk of the new American administration. Nothing of the kind in fact ... let me remind you that by 1869 the American papers laughed at the purchase of Alaska. The deal was called a folly."

NARRATOR: The first amendment did not, in fact, protect Rumeysa Ozturk.
To anyone who is not clear: The First Amendment protected Rumeysa Ozturk when she published her op-ed. The same way it has protected me.

Rule of law means that we should be treated equally.

The correct response to this line of questioning is “NPR journalists report the news without bias, regardless of their personal political affiliation.” I’m incensed on behalf of all my journalist colleagues who report the facts with integrity.
NPR CEO Katherine Maher also concedes to a Republican complaint, saying she is "concerned" about the number of registered Democrats working at NPR compared to the lack of Republicans working at the station...

American civil society is full of abject cowards, that is the issue. The government is a mafia state but it is winning because most American elite institutions are devoid of anything resembling integrity and are folding rather than stand on principles that were little more than marketing.

When I see stories about law firms capitulating to rogue and unconstitutional executive orders, I’m reminded of the French composer Henri Rabaud, head of the Paris Conservatoire when the Nazis set up the Vichy government in France….
