13,300 confined children in the U.S. are detained pretrial – aka, they’re legally innocent

Locking kids up in deplorable conditions is traumatizing and counterproductive to public safety in the short & long term

56% of people in state prisons have a mental health problem, yet only 26% have received professional help since entering

Prisons & jails are not made to accommodate serious mental health needs, yet law enforcement & courts continue to respond to mental illness like it’s a crime

“…minors spend up to 23 hours a day in isolation, go without schooling, and in some cases avoid showering…”

Trying teens as adults is harmful and does not make communities safer. It’s time to stop this failed approach. #YouthJustice #RaiseTheAge

Some youth in Maryland spend more than a year in adult jails before seeing their day in court. Without a fix, the state may lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal funding every year.

Maintaining contact with family during incarceration is also critical for mental health during re-entry.

The correct answer to Donald Trump threatening to pull your funding if you won't implement his vile anti-trans kids agenda is "fuck off, you don't get to decide California policy for us."
1. California will now give consolation spots to cisgender girls in finals who lose to trans girls.

This comes after a vote by CA's sports authority. Newsom has expressed support for the move.

It is a remarkable capitulation to Trump.
