The AI era is one of mythology, where billions in GPUs are bought to create supply for imaginary demand, where software is sold based on things it cannot reliably do, where companies that burn billions of dollars are rewarded with glitzy headlines and not an ounce of cynicism, and where those that have pushed back against it have been treated with more skepticism and ire than those who would benefit the most from the propagation of propaganda and outright lies. This is the spiritual successor to How To Argue With An AI Booster, where I address the technical, financial and philosophical myths that underpin the endless sales of GPUs and ever-increasing valuation of OpenAI. Several pro-Israel groups and leaders publicly attacked her after she posted on X that “No independent investigation found that rape took place on the 7th of October 2023.” They accused her of denying and minimizing sexual violence against Israeli women and a petition signed by over 300 rabbis, Jewish leaders, and women’s rights advocates urged the UN to remove her from her post, accusing her of bias and antisemitism. Alsalem, in her statement today, reiterates that she condemns all violence against civilians and has consistently called for independent, impartial investigations into sexual and gender-based violence against both Israelis and Palestinians. She contrasts this with corroborated information her mandate received regarding sexual and gender-based violence against Palestinian women and girls, including rape, sexual assault, threats of rape, abuse in detention, and reproductive violence. These findings formed the basis of formal UN communications to Israel and multiple follow-up letters since October 2023. Alsalem also addresses accusations of antisemitism and anti-Israel bias, describing them as targeted attacks meant to discredit her work after she refused to issue blanket condemnations unsupported by evidence.
