There is no amount of useful that LLMs can reach that will make me think using them is acceptable. They are harmful at their base design and getting deep into a discussion of how good or bad the output is is only ceding that point implicitly.

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

We are well past the point at which talking uncritically about AI should be seen as deeply embarrassing. https://ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/against-stocking-frames/

“Artificial intelligence” is a failed technology. It’s time we described it that way.

If you are okay with this, if you think this is justified, if you think people living on the street have brought this upon themselves, if you think this is good leadership, you may be able to fool yourself that you care about others but you don’t fool me

"actually there are a few use cases for LLMs" fair enough friend! Just know that I lose all respect for you when you use them for anything at all. Utter contempt. I'll never respect you again. Good luck out there

you're being very aggressive and unkind to genAI right now and not really giving it a chance, and i just want to say good job that's the way to do it

For literally no reason I've updated the Javascript on my non-interactive GORILLAS.BAS browser port. I originally wrote this in 2014…in CoffeeScript.

The reality is that there is all the difference in the world between designing a picture of a website and designing a fully responsive and accessible site.

They are different problems that require different tools.

Anil Dash has written about how dangerous this actually is.

Folks are using Substack branding for their own work and they’re paying SS 10 percent for the pleasure. It’s really fucking weird when you stop and think about it.

every little bit of contribution to or normalization of fascism helps fascism.

“i’m on substack because that’s where the network is.”

every little bit helps!

“i’m on x because that’s where my followers are.”

every little bit helps!

I’m not sure that creative merit of work made with LLMs is even worth debating any more. No defenses of “AI art” have been in good faith; it’s “my kid could draw that” for a new generation with added retaliatory contempt for “cancel culture,” the labor movement, DEI, etc

it’s tiring talking about this every few weeks but if you want to launch your newsletter on substack and share revenue with those guys, that’s your choice. but at this point you know exactly what you’re getting into and everyone else knows, too.
