Yes! We need more bus, less stop.
Increasing the distance between stops from 700–800 feet to 1,300 feet (typical spacing in Western Europe) can deliver faster service, better reliability, and more service with the same resources.

Bus stop balancing is fast, cheap, and effective. It can turn a service people tolerate into one they’re happy to use.

The work PBOT is doing on 82nd Ave truly warms my heart. All the crossings and median islands... swoon... and they just shared this photo of a center curb separator being installed at NE Fremont!

In the long term, I believe there's no escaping the fact that the city must invest more to update the fleet and add bikes. Hopefully this survey encourages PBOT to find that funding!

Interesting!!

The wrinkle w this situation vs the 1935 decision is that petitioners didn’t put HB 3991 on the ballot as a whole bill. They only opposed some elements of the bill.
A 90-year-old legal opinion could jeopardize Gov. Tina Kotek’s desire to repeal House Bill 3991, the controversial Oregon Department of Transportation funding package she backed and lawmakers passed in a September special session.

This chart of East Multnomah County (Gresham/Fairview/Troutdale) is a bonkers illustration of how drivers just lost their minds during the pandemic and have still not found them.

Also shows urgent need for radical redesign of our roads to prevent folks from driving dangerously.

Always fun seeing my photos pop up.

Yesterday Governor Tina Kotek used my bike bus image and today I open the new East Multnomah County Transpo Safety Plan and see one of my images is on the cover!

Did you know my entire archive of 57,234 photos is free for gov't/nonprofit/non-commercial use?

Looks like there's an effort afoot from City of Portland to go after PCEF $$$ to fund the bicycle promotion campaign that PBOT Bike Coordinator Roger Geller has been pushing for. I covered his plan in Nov 2024.

Hmmmm... Very similar script being used by ODOT re: I-5 Rose Quarter.

The new project manager Monica Blanchard told Metro JPACT just a few minutes ago

"As concerns around cost escalation continue, staying on schedule with Phase 1A construction is essential for controlling our future costs."
Earlier today WSDOT Secretary Julie Meredith was asked about the leaked cost estimates on the Interstate Bridge Replacement and her response was...not incredibly encouraging.

"By getting started that's the way to help manage the costs."

fwiw, it may not look like it if you watch TV news, but the Progressive Caucus just wrenched power away from the center-right old guard through sustained parliamentary action in concert with organized movements.

It’s a huge accomplishment that will be lost on many casual observers.

Organizing = 👍
Reading this thread - and considering the context of the last week or so up in Portland - is illuminating about the fights we have to take back control of our cities, everywhere

A lot of these folks traffic in plausible respectability, so it’s helpful to have clear evidence of who they are.

I always say good politicians know whose opinions to value most. I hope councilors take these texts into account when making that judgment.
