Hey, what was the extent of this Orcas St paving project? Is it finished?

Hey @cascadepbs.bsky.social, any way you can show From Rails to Trails when it premieres October 15? You've got a years-old rerun of Secrets of the Dead scheduled at 7pm. Is it too late to swap that out? The Burke-Gilman Trail is featured in the trailer: www.pbs.org/video/from-r...

Who do we mean when we say “Black Seattle”?

This mayoral race isn’t about personalities—it’s about whether symbolism becomes substance. What do “seats at the table” mean if the rest of us go hungry?

My latest column for the @soseaemerald.bsky.social
COLUMN | What This Mayoral Election Owes 'Black Seattle'
From City Hall to the Central District, Seattle's mayoral race raises deeper questions: Who speaks for "Black Seattle," and what does real representation look like beyond the ballot? Marcus Harrison G...

SDOT is officially opening the E Marginal Way bike lanes tomorrow - everything north of S Horton Street.

The street won't open to two-way vehicle traffic until next week, so enjoy this weekend.

Bruce Harrell likes to bluster about standing up to Trump

But behind the scenes, SPD is collaborating with ICE, and Harrell’s trying to hide it until after the election

ICE wants data? No prob, that will take 4 days

Journalist question about data sent to ICE? Sorry, best we can do is 4 months

Imagine being the Secretary of Transportation for the entire country and cheering ripping up a crosswalk because of your hatred. Sad little man
whstancil.bsky.social
Just openly cheering the destruction of any representation of gay people in public space. They think their power is totally unrestricted, and the entire country will support them rolling back society to the 1950s, or maybe the 1850s

An adult driver angry at a child they hit with their car.

Our car culture summed up in one video.
robsonfletcher.com
Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

Listening to Federal Way's traffic engineer explain why a speed limit reduction isn't likely on a street next to a school after a serious crash - on a street where drivers are exceeding the 35 mph limit.

"It was a tragic situation that occurred out there...but realistically it's an outlier."

I have no issue with men crying! I found it endearing and relatable. It's the years of anti-tax and criminalizing poverty stuff that bothers me.

I have no issue with men crying. I found it endearing and relatable. That's why I was so disappointing to learn it was this guy! I had only ever read about his years of anti-tax stuff and so I didn't recognize him.

Agreed. The city and county are NOT currently doing what is needed to actually help people dealing with homelessness or debilitating addiction. On that point, I agree with Saul Spady. But it's going to take public investment in shelters, services and permanent homes, not mandatory jail sentences.
seattlebikeblog.com
There's a lot to unpack. The initiative would not add funding for additional shelter, but it does criminalize "camping" and introduces mandatory minimum prison sentences for drug crimes. It's a policy designed to move people somewhere else, not to increase the availability of shelter and services.

Wait, crying Mariners guy was Saul Spady?!? The Dick's burgers grandson who wants to ban homeless people and fought against the corporate head tax and even the damn Seattle Education Levy? Well that is a huge disappointment.

UPDATE (October 6): I heard back from the project team. They couldn’t work out an easement with BNSF in time to be part of this project, but it will be addressed in the next couple of years as part of a bigger project to demolish the nearby building to the west.

2/2 And bad news:
-pinch point, about 5 feet (1.5 meters) wide, remains
-widening pinch point was part of the project, yet Port of Seattle scrubbed the design from its project page

1st image is archived version from July 2025, 2nd is current version

I will reach out for info
@seattlebikeblog.com
Screenshot of an archived version of the project page from July 2025 that has widening the pinch point in the work area Screenshot of the current version of the project page claiming the trail was widened in places but no longer refers to the pinch point A tape measure is laid across a pinch point on a trail made narrow by chain link fencing on each side Close up view of the tape measure showing the pinch point is roughly 5 feet or 1.5 meters wide
