Olemme onnistuneet luomaan kulttuuria jossa yhteiskuntaan osallistumattomuus nähdään tavoiteltavana. Joissain väestöryhmissä haaveillaan jopa nuorena eläköitymisestä.

Meillä on valtava määrä ihmisiä joilla on sekä asiantuntijuutta että elämänkokemuksen mukanaan tuomaa viisautta. Eläköitymisen sijaan olisi hienoa jos meillä olisi joustavampia rakenteita yhteiskuntaan osallistumiselle läpi elämän ja jaksamisen mukaisesti, myös yli 65-vuotiaana.

Samaan aikaan kun elinikä on pidentynyt on uusia veronmaksajia syntynyt vähemmän.

Eläke oli aluksi vanhuuden turva, mutta nykyiset useimmat eläkeläiset ovat verrattain hyväkuntoisia jolloin nykyinen järjestelmä vaikuttaa enemmänkin yhteiskunnan kustantamalta lomalta.
