If Xi Jinping invaded Taiwan right now, and toppled the president there, on what grounds would the United States object? Or have any credibility to say anything?

Watching old episodes of top gear whilst reading the making of those episodes in Andy Wilman’s book is an interesting experience…

This is a strange way of saying “we’re complying with court orders now that we failed to get #SCOTUS to stay them.”
Trump announces he’s pulling the National Guard from Portland, LA, and Chicago but threatens that “We will come back, perhaps in a much different and stronger form, when crime begins to soar again - Only a question of time!”

Question: But the president’s statements that he believed the election was rife with fraud—those are statements protected by the First Amendment, correct?

Smith: Absolutely not. If they are made to target a lawful government function and are made with knowing falsity, then no, they are not.

Special Counsel Jack Smith said under oath they have direct evidence Trump caused January 6 and exploited it.

Congress went home for the holidays like this is normal.

This is peak dissociation.

NEW: Jack Smith seemed in total command of the details of his probes and used his deposition to forcefully rebut claims of weaponization and reiterate his belief that Trump was guilty of historic crimes.

Our 7 takeaways.

Smith: He was getting calls from people he trusts, people he relies on—and he still refused to come to the aid of the people at the Capitol. That’s very important evidence for criminal intent in our case.

Americans chatting shit about the crime rate in London is laughable, and I'm tired of it. London is far safer than cities in the USA.

If I were Rachel Reeves, I'd get the local police to raid the pub for underage drinkers and environmental health to go through the place like a dose of salts. HMRC too.
Thankfully, Reeves has, unlike hacks at The Mail on Sunday, more important matters.

Entertaining as this spat is, it contains not-a-flicker of recognition as to WHY this might be happening.

For 16 months, a tax-exile-oligarch-owned, mostly right-wing press, has abused the privilege of these exclusive private sessions, to misrepresent the gov't on every issue. This is the FO stage.

Weird how The Sun calls for the the BBC to cancel Strictly Come Dancing every time there's the slightest hint of a scandal, but they don't demand the Premier League be shut down every time a footballer does an actual rape.

Jack Smith wants to testify in public - Republicans refuse.

He wants his depo tape made public - no again.

The second strike boat video? - nope.

Epstein files law complied with? - not today.

Vote on ACA? - maybe next year.

Republicans: Hide, obstruct, lie, delay, deny.

When Rob Reiner was on his all-time epic run at the start of his career, he had an opportunity to read a script that was looking for a production partner, and he lost his mind for it. He decided Castle Rock had to have it, no matter what.

The real disgrace in UK's welfare bill is that so much of it is spent on people in work. We are subsidising jobs that do not pay enough to live on. If we genuinely made sure work paid a decent living, then we would not have such a high bill.
