This chemical weapons attack at close range against an unarmed civilian exercising THE most fundamental human rights protected by the Constitution… is a crime against the Constitution & against everyone in the United States.

Here's a photo of my friend and colleague, Jorge Bautista, getting shot in the face with a flashbang grenade. The ICE Agent is so afraid of Jorge (who was posing no threat) that he has wet himself. Please share this photo. Everyone needs to know what cowards ICE agents are.

#BREAKING: Iowa’s anti-immigrant law, SF 2340, stays blocked!

The 8th Circuit has affirmed what advocates have said all along: states can’t make their own deportation laws. This ruling keeps thousands of Iowa families safe and together.

A win for dignity, due process, and the rule of law.
Appeals Court Upholds Block on Iowa Anti-Immigrant Law
The law empowers state officials to arrest and deport people, a power that, under the U.S. Constitution, belongs to the federal government.

We're thrilled that construction of the Harlem River Greenway is underway! Greenways are the glue that holds the bike network together, allowing people to safely get where they're going, and enabling them to enjoy the natural environment. The project broke ground last week:

Read the Bill of Rights carefully. It says government must not use power arbitrarily, that all people have a right to the fullness of a life of the mind and heart that government cannot touch. We are free together, or not at all. navigatornews.substack.com/p/the-word-l...
The word 'liberal' means 'pro-freedom'
A lot of the venom in American political rhetoric could be dissolved if more people understood that being liberal does not mean opposing conservative values. It means freedom is for everyone.

It does not matter how much money Congress allocates to the ICE budget. No act of Congress & no Court can provide ICE with any authority whatsoever to ignore or circumvent the Constitution. Any attempt to do so is a criminal act & warrants suspension & investigation of all involved.

This is industry capture of government, akin to what is seen in the most corrupt countries in the world. The result will be generations of senseless harm & cost to all Americans.

Future generations will be grateful that, faced with tyrannical abuses, millions of Americans showed up to remind all who hold office & all who interact with them that the law governs & the President & all other officials are servants. The President cannot alter the law or ignore it. #NoKings
When a judge tells someone they are free to go & required to return for their next hearing on a scheduled date, THAT is the law. The right to due process bars any executive interference in this process. Any such detention is a crime with numerous accomplice actions attached to it.
“.. They are the asylum seekers, the rule followers. They go into the federal building holding papers .. hoping for a measure of due process. Some leave the courthouse with a hearing date set months or years from now. Others disappear into ICE’s prison system.”

Power is shared not only among the Legislature, the Executive, and the Judiciary. Power, under the US Constitution, is also held, in part, by the States, the Press, other private associations, and—through & beyond all of these—by the People. People can change the narrative & the incentives.
Over on Faux News, they had actual discussions today about the fact that 7 million people showed up to remind their fellow citizens that the republic cannot tolerate a tyrant. They debated whether tyranny is happening but acknowledged: These were real people & it was the biggest protest in history.
For as long as the republic survives, this disgraceful act will stand as a symbol of the total unfitness of Trump to hold any position of responsibility. History classes will study the wreckage: soaring prices, degraded institutions, rampant corruption, summary executions, trying to end due process.
It’s day 20 of the government shutdown and construction crews at the White House's East Wing tear down walls to make room for trump's f*cking massive ballroom.

A quarter of a BILLION…when Americans are struggling to get by. Absolutely shameful.
