I'd like it if the U.S. remains at least somewhat democratic. American living abroad.

The district courtroom really is one of the last spaces left in American public life where there’s a serious possibility that a strategy built on the denial of reality just won‘t fly.
THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

Great read from Dan Rather:
"...The very existence of a free press is a threat to this president’s modus operandi, which is to govern by lying. Why would he want people around him who ask for facts and truthful answers?..."

it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

Are Republicans guilty of treason? It seems they're breaking their oath en masse. When we restore democracy, what is the accountability?

Very important point here from Sam Berger: "a government shutdown does not provide the Administration any additional legal authority to fire federal employees, limit review of its actions by federal courts, or freeze funding once full-year appropriations are provided."

I'm appalled but unfortunately unsurprised to hear that ICE is targeting my neighbors in Rogers Park today. Unidentifiable and unaccountable agents are roaming the streets with their faces covered targeting schools and community centers. It needs to end. Abolish ICE.

Well one thing is for sure. Much of the media in the US doesn't actually engage in journalism. I don't know what to call what they do but it is not journalism.

For the record, our division commander BANNED things called “presence patrols” in Iraq.

“If you don’t have a specific task & purpose, your ‘presence’ doesn’t do anything.”

National Guard stating they are now doing presence patrols in DC.

A complete waste of soldier’s time & effort.
