Nothing quite more depressing than seeing north Wales comms/stakeholder jobs advertised at £30k requiring two languages, and similar monolingual jobs in the south of England for £50k.

I say this every time anyone asks why people near wind farms don't get discount electricity: every time it's been tried, people just use more. And the more you use, the more money you save, so bigger users (i.e. those with bigger houses, i.e. wealthier people) benefit more.

Rachel Reeves’s 5% VAT cut on electricity bills will backfire, experts say
Critics believe cut would mostly benefit better-off people with larger homes and increase carbon emissions
Proposals being considered by Rachel Reeves to cut tax on electricity bills will backfire, experts have warned, resulting in a giveaway to richer homeowners and undermining the UK’s climate commitments.
The chancellor is understood to be looking at plans to eliminate the 5% VAT charge on electricity bills as a fast and simple way to reduce bills for consumers and ease the cost of living pressures which have aided the rise of Reform UK. Continue reading...

Every time I see a social media meme about being an introvert, which is at least once a week, I think about how the modern conception of introversion was popularized by a book by a woman who worked on Wall Street who felt that she was so different and special compared to her coked up male colleagues

Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

Writer's block is, like quicksand, broadly a plot device.
I don't know a single person who writes for a living that has ever had writer's block, because they can't afford it. You sigh, you make a coffee or cup of tea, then you get started again and it's fine.
