Definitely not going to excuse Waymo on this one, but for perspective: at least 50 precious human lives that we know of have been ended by Tesla's Autopilot/FSD.

Sad as it is, a dead cat is a long, long way from the biggest scandal in this technology.
“You can tell by the love and support he’s getting from the community that he was amazing.”

KitKat, known as the "Mayor of 16th Street," was killed by a Waymo cab last week, sparking calls for more regulation of driverless cars.

dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

I’ve joked before that Rationalism is to Silicon Valley as Scientology is to Hollywood.

And that’s… not a joke, actually.

The rationalist community is very influential and more than a little cult like.

Eliezer Yudkowsky is the L. Ron Hubbard of rationalism.

What we're witnessing with #Melissa is ultra rare in the history of known hurricanes in the Atlantic. This level of sustained intensity and feasting on every joule of ocean heat content without any real disruption is incredible.

Not hyperbole: Jamaica is facing a generational catastrophic event.

There's been endless talk about an AI bubble, but less about exactly how, why, and how much it's a bubble. So I turned to the framework put forward by scholars Brent Goldfarb and David A. Kirsch, authors of "Bubbles and Crashes," for assessing tech bubbles.

Spoiler: On a scale of 1 to 8, AI is an 8
AI Is the Bubble to Burst Them All
I talked to the scholars who literally wrote the book on tech bubbles—and applied their test.

A thing I have learned from being online since 1995:

If you're a writer, editor, journalist, academic, you have to be ready to go contrarian when you feel it. And if you're feeling it all the time, such that it's become your idenitity, that's a signal. You broke your mind.
