New preprint: we isolated an heterogeneous population comprising both large and small #ExtracellularVesicles. Using a modified immuno-gold protocol, we show that, at least in U-2 OS EVs, CD9 and CD81 are enriched in EVs < 100 nm.

There are concerns that Bluesky's impact has faded since the initial hype. This is false.

That impression results from reading headlines about social media instead of the hard data.

The five HIGHEST points of Bluesky posts mentioning research all occur in the last 2 weeks.

Not all tRNA fragments (tDRs) are created equal. Here we share methods to differentiate:

1) real tDRs and those produced by dissociation of nicked tRNAs, 2) nicked tRNAs / tDRs in extracellular vesicles vs outside.

Here's a clever new study looking at where mRNA vaccine lipid nanoparticles (mRNA-LNPs) go after vaccination (using relevant doses of vaccine) in non-human primates (and mice): www.cell.com/molecular-th...

GRC on RNA Nanotechnology came to an end yesterday. Thanks to the organizers for inviting me to present our work on the uptake of naked exRNAs, and to serve as discussion leader of the RNA Delivery session. What a fantastic and enjoyable conference!

Very happy to start the new year with publication of our new work on leaf surface RNA. Plant leaves secrete diverse RNAs that are surprisingly stable on their surfaces. Next question to answer: What do they do? www.pnas.org/doi/epub/10....

"Here, we show that this Ab appears to be unreliable due to providing false-positive signals at the expected molecular weight of Bax in immunoblotting experiments and likewise provides false-positive signals in immunofluorescence-based detection of Bax expression"

Some of you probably do not realize how difficult it is to get a BIG international grant when located in LMIC (especially in Argentina). I am so proud of you @pstrobl.bsky.social. So well deserved. I am so happy to be part. You are the best!! @wellcometrust.bsky.social @unsamoficial.bsky.social

Thrilled to share that our project will be granted by @wellcometrust.bsky.social for the following 8 years at @IntechChascomus @unsamoficial.bsky.social I would like to thanks the collaborator of the project @ndemiguel.bsky.social and @eliasbarrigalab.bsky.social for all the support.

But please dont share this as a mantra for success. If your success comes at the direct expense of your colleagues because they are doing all the work everyone is supposed to share in, it does not make you ‘successful’ it just makes you a horrible colleague.

Rant over. For now

This will be the next level of scientific devaluation: science to proof a political standpoint, rather than policy following scientific proof.

Trump says RFK Jr will “investigate” the link between vaccines and autism as “somebody needs to find out.”

We’ve ALREADY FOUND OUT
- >600,000 kids in Denmark
- >90,000 in the US
- >1.2m kids worldwide

NO LINK.

How many more of these does he want us to do?

Thus, endosomal signaling within a tissue microenvironment is likely, while miRNA signaling between cells from different organs would require highly efficient release and/or highly efficient uptake. Both are extracellular RNA-mediated intercellular communication processes. But likelihood differs
jptosar.bsky.social
I guess it depends on several factors. First, what we understand by function. miRNAs require the same sequence to be present in the cytosol at a certain amount. Endosomal TLR signaling is less sequence-dependent. Second, the conc. might be high next to the releasing cell, then decays (cont…)

As a relatively new field, it’s following this path. With the exception that, depending who you talk to, we might still be in the peak of inflated expectations, the trough of disillusionment or the slope of enlightenment. There are lots of artifacts going on, but probably also important biology
