I’ve had both my original outbound and return flights cancelled this week. but I figured it was a small inconvenience if it meant people got to keep their healthcare. I guess all this was for nothing then. Fuck the cowards.

Sex pest, killer of grandparents, racist, sore loser, entitled nepo, scofflaw. As a former NYC dweller, it was a nice coincidence to be back visiting the city and getting see this absolute tool of a human get his ass handed to him. To quote Nelson Muntz “Ha-Ha!”

If $25/year is too much, no worries. But for a lot of us, ~$2 is doable. Then pay Flaming Hydra $3/month & you get a bunch of great writing for $60/yr. I like pubs that are either collective or can pay freelancers. Assigned Media, Defector, 404Media & Welcome to Hell World are great too.
Sometimes we receive complaints from people who'd like to read Flytrap content for free. We understand the frustration around paywalls in an increasingly dire financial landscape for many folks, so we also want to be honest about our financials. Let's talk about what it costs to run the Flytrap.

Listen man, if a transphobe or a nazi wants to vote to stop the fascists go for it. But if you think fascism is a lesser evil than trans people existing, if imposing your bigotry on everyone trumps every other value you hold as the condition for your vote, well then fuck off. Fix your heart or die.

Oh well, Mariners. Not my team, but living here the excitement of the fans is a lot of fun. I didn't live in Chicago when the Cubs won, so I hope the Mariners win & I get to experience the second-hand thrill of it. That looks more like Supersonics green to me tho. Maybe my WB is off? #photography

Finally watched the John Oliver piece on the new head of CBS News, who I'd never heard speak. The unearned self-regarding smugness that just oozes from every word . . . dear god. Just the immature teenage belief that no one has ever thought such profound thoughts before. A caricature of a person.

Space Needle. I don't really like it when it's light out at 5am in June but 730am sunrises are also just kind of silly. The sun should come up between 615-630am all year. #photography

Up a steep mountain path, rocked and rooted, a night to lay under the stars and mooncast shadows, the faint drifting smell of wildfire smoke while you drink red wine out of a plastic bottle and forget for a minute the person you were even existed. #photography

Slightly off-topic but I learned the correct pronunciation of the German writer Goethe riding the 151 in Chicago back n' forth between Buena Park and Borders store #58 not long after graduating college.
What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Well if the Cubs lose today at least I won’t have to find out which of the guys seems a little too excited (a la Aaron Judge) to meet the president. A meaningless but still shitty thing about These Times is your championship winning team visiting this White House. Takes the shine off a bit.

Another lake behind me prevented moving far enough away before the sky lost its color to use a long enough lens so the almost Harvest moon Sunday night wouldn't look like a pinhead. Sigh. #photography #fujifilm

@greenwell.bsky.social's Bad Company isn’t exactly a beach read. In fact, as someone whose life was upended by private equity (RIP Mervyn’s) it was kind of a hate read, but not because the book is bad, (it is excellent, see below) but because PE is bad. So very, very bad. . . (long thread)

I am the enemy within, riding a bike around Seattle early mornings, plotting different places & ways to take photos of that big-assed mountain watching over us. It's how I stay sane as tfg declares war on me & the people I love & people I don't even know but who don't deserve this. #photography

Carried my 450mm lens instead of my 600mm to Rainier Saturday b/c what were the odds I’d see wildlife where I’d need that extra 150mm? Ah, well. Saw these two from the Sourdough Ridge trail, calorie-loading for winter. Video cropped to vertical #wildlife

Mt Rainier and the Seattle Great Wheel. The thing about sunrise is you really do need at least a few clouds to catch the light else the sky is just kinda flat and boring. Played cloud roulette this morning and think it worked out okay. #photography #Mountainsout

#Mountainsout just barely. Not been down to Rainier in '25. Weekend weather never aligned for snowcamping & missed out on the backcountry lottery. Saturday's weather might cooperate, just a matter of Sunrise v Paradise as my preferred fall Spray Park hike is indefinitely inaccessible. #photography

Every time the police show up at my door saying “We have security footage of you shoplifting from Target again”, the 1st thing I feel is anger & rage, it's like I’m being bullied. Sometimes I carry a few things out of the store w/o paying. Never more than $25 of stuff. I'm not a habitual shoplifter.
