I make music and help others make the music they want to make. Composer, co-AD of New Amsterdam Records. None of us are free until all of us are free. He/him.
My takeaway from all this pie nonsense is that some of you have not had a good plum pie.

In Monrovia, California, protesters are purchasing 17¢ ICE scrapers from Home Depot and immediately returning them to create long lines and slow down the entire store. Their aim is to disrupt sales and convey a message opposing ICE raids occurring in their neighborhood.

Watching the Mr Plow episode of The Simpsons and I forgot that he gets the key of the city “for allowing people to get where they’re going without public transportation or carpooling”

I was on a phone call with my sisters when this box bug decided it needed to land on my glasses, for reasons unknown. To my credit I was never *scared* but it was a startling moment.

I don’t know what “pie discourse” means but stone fruit pie (plum/peach/cherry) is among the greatest foods ever conceived and anyone who tells you otherwise is an emissary of Satan

Unexpected Silkroad Ensemble appearance
Boring hobby I've picked up: Listening to a Grammy winning album in some genre I don't know much about. Probably not putting Silkroad and Yo-Yo Ma on heavy rotation but why not challenge myself a little as I work. Music that hasn't become familiar/comforting puts you in a different state of mind.

TIL! (And I grew up in NYC and lived there for the first half of my adult life)
One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

6yo wanted to listen to The Black Cauldron storybook in the car and I had forgotten

a) how into those books I was as a kid (though this was the storybook of the much inferior Disney adaptation)

And

b) how they are Temu Lord of the Rings

Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

It makes a loot of sense.

The right wing grifter "voice" is easy to replicate and requires no credentials or skills beyond time, shamelessness, and cruelty.

Twitter payouts for a modestly successful account aren't enough to live off in California, but will feed a family of four in Rajasthan.
I see a lot of Paidchecks on X didn’t realize that a whole lot of people on social media lie about their location to grift off the naïveté of the rage-addled American right.

Turns out this problem is real and it’s a thing those of us who worked on “disinformation” pointed out.

White people get obsessed with being the legendary John Brown because they see it as how they can center themselves as white people to save Black people, they don't see being down with or in community with or following the lead of Black people as part of it, because they don't do those things.
