When will the Labour government defend our BBC? Will they always let Trump tell us what to do?

Seeing so many posts about who “Starmer and Nandy” will appoint as director general. Easy mistake but the government does not appoint the director general! The BBC board, whose members are appointed for rolling terms by the culture secretary, appoints the director general.

If only Fox News or GB News were held to even 100th of the standard that the BBC is expected to operate.
Nandy needs to offer full throated support for the organisation. I fear she won't.

SUPERB and angrily unvarnished response, by former BBC chairman, Lord Patten.

I’ve written to Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage urging them to condemn Donald Trump’s attack on the BBC.

The BBC belongs to Britain, not Trump. We must defend it together.

“The people appointed by Boris Johnson with the job of nobbling the BBC, have finally nobbled the BBC” Nick Robinson on BBCToday.

At this watershed moment, UK politicians must back the BBC and public service broadcasting - which Trump has all but destroyed in the US. #BBC #PBS #nobbled

It’s easy to see why Trump wants to destroy the world’s number one news source. We can’t let him.

The BBC belongs to all of us here in the UK.

The Prime Minister and leaders from across the political spectrum should be united in telling Trump to keep his hands off it.

LibDems defeated Farage’s 10 minute rule bill to take us out of the European Convention on Human Rights earlier. Frontbench Labour abstained. Tories voted with Reform. This was the make up of the house for the debate. Only really the LD benches bothered! Will this get any coverage I wonder ?

This clip is a must watch and must share‼️

Ignore all the harms of the Reagan presidency, and focus on how 100% right Reagan was and is about tariffs harming virtually everybody in both importing and exporting countries.
Here’s the original clip of Ronald Reagan from April 25, 1987, where he delivered a complete and total rebuke against tariffs. Trump's calling Reagan’s words here “FAKE” and “fraudulent.” They’re 100% real. And the original clip is actually far worse for Trump, as much is left out of the ad:

Local government isn’t “boring bureaucracy”, writes Stephen McNair.

It’s social care, housing, libraries, leisure centres, youth clubs.

When these vanish, communities fracture. When local government breaks, so does trust in politics itself.
