Last week I met with some incredibly brave migrant domestic workers supported by @kalayaan.org.uk about the need for rights to challenge abuse and prevent exploitation - sadly happening in homes where you would not expect it, including in Kensington & Bayswater. 🧡

Our thanks to Special Rapporteur Siobhán Mullally & UN colleagues for inviting us to attend today & speak to some of the issues the UK is battling with. It remains a difficult time for those working in the migration field, supporting those who have experienced workplace abuse. Our work continues.. 🇺🇳

Great to be at House of Lords today for #DomesticWorkersDay. Migrants who enter legally for work often face illegal exploitative employment with no path to identity recognition. Lord German's amendment on right to work is crucial - we need government to show humanity and care.

Lord Mike German opens our event this afternoon discussing the upcoming Borders Bill and the crucial opportunities for legislative reform to prevent worker exploitation. We need compassion and humanity for this workforce and all migrants in the UK.

A must read from Marissa Begonia, leader and advocate at The Voice of Domestic Workers. This #InternationalDomesticWorkersDay we don't want to hear empty words or praise. We want change. We want Labour to stick to its promise to fix the visa and guarantee safety for all migrant domestic workers.
Domestic workers in the UK face exploitation under restrictive visa rules. Marissa Begonia calls for urgent reform to protect their rights.
If Labour really wants to protect women, it must restore domestic workers' rights
