It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and by “wonderful” I mean the time when we get a bunch of cards addressed to “Mr and Mrs [Husband’s First Name] Last Name.”

Love the casual reminder that women are expected to just ✨disappear✨ behind their spouses after marriage

Not even 11am and I’ve already dealt with my first curveball of the day.

Not a family thing. Not a food thing. No. I had to help neutralize a WASP in my upstairs so the kitties didn’t get stung.

It is NOVEMBER. There is SNOW on the ground. There was a WASP in my house 😫

JD Vance is the human equivalent of a menstrual cramp. Too bad ibuprofen doesn’t get rid of him 🙃
JD Vance calls ibuprofen "useless medication" and implies it's not "necessary, safe and effective."

spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

The thought of going back to my pre-medication makes me sick to my stomach.

I was never violent. I was never homicidal or even suicidal. Just in a constant state of turmoil and dread. I did not know peace for TWENTY EIGHT YEARS.

You know what does stoke violence though? Right-wing bullshit
First they came for reproductive rights.
Then they came for vaccines.
Now they’re coming for mental health.

There is zero evidence SSRIs cause mass violence.

You know what does? Guns — and the fact that anyone can access weapons that kill hundreds in seconds.

if you are food insecure for both the humans and pets in your household there is a tool called Pet Help Finder that can help locate pet food banks nearby and other free or reduced price assistance and supplies for pets.
no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should have to give up their pet bc of this.

Readers in Arizona, Michigan, & Georgia!

Your senators have been getting a LOT of dedicated pressure to end the shutdown, without fixing healthcare.

If you have a minute, go ahead & give them a call!

Their job is to respond to constituents & they're mostly hearing from GOP voters rn.

NIMBYism is often discussed in terms of folks protecting their property values/nest egg. And I am sure that is a big part of it. But I suspect "I don't like change" and a healthy dose of racism and xenophobia are the biggest drivers.
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

My PhD focused on fandom and copyright. I have read more about fandom than 99% percent of the human population. Many of the things written, including some written by learned scholars, have ben dumb.

None as dumb as this.

That’s the kind of kneejerk dismissive advice that makes me violent. Telling people to just grow their own food is tantamount to telling them to eat cake.
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

Really, any group event.

Monthly civic org meeting? Food drive.
Board games at your house? Food drive.
Book club? Food drive.
Etc.

From what I've read, the SNAP expiration - especially atop the already enacted dismantling of federal funds to pantries - is pretty much apocalyptic.
IF YOU ARE ORGANIZING:

You should be hosting food drives at every event. Seriously.
Reminder:

If you see somebody stealing food from a corporate grocery store, no you didn’t.

Every single day, I think to myself “we really, really, REALLY need to disbar more people.”

I also have to wonder how someone so unfathomably, unapologetically stupid could even pass the bar exam in the first place 🫠
EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.
