I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

JUST IN: ICE didn’t say how much migrants would get or when the offer would take effect, but The AP obtained an email to migrant shelters saying children 14 years of age and older would get $2,500 each. Children were given 24 hours to respond.

TL;DR, the current CR doesn't have any risks to gender-affirming care. But the upcoming spending fight will and it's important to differentiate between the two, especially when it's information for a vulnerable population. Our job should be to seek truth and report it and minimize harm.

1. There's a lot of confusion about this out there. Let me make it easier:

There are two ways to keep the government open: The full FY26 appropriations bill for the entire year, and a continuing resolution to keep it open for a few months at current levels.

Both are part of negotiations right now.

Here's the genuine problem. There's a lot of bottom-up arguments Miran makes for r* = 0%, each a good deal outside of consensus but interesting.

But there's also another thing that could make someone argue r* = 0%, as show in the algebra below (all discussed in the piece).

New post, I finally wrote my thoughts on the Stephen Miran Federal Reserve speech.

I think it shows yet another reason for central bank independence. Without it, you can't tell what's a genuine outsider take and what's just carrying water for the Executive.

Stephen Miran's recent speech highlights not just a debate over r*, but the deeper risks of allowing White House talking points to shape monetary policy.

Ah - seems like the thought is that a strict reading immediately strips care from Medicare/medicaid, and a broader interpretation of this could mean withholding funds from hospitals. At least that’s Erin Reed’s take open.substack.com/pub/erininth...
Trump Digs In On Anti-Trans Provisions In Shutdown Fight Message
The provisions are becoming a key sticking point in the ongoing fight to keep the government open.

this would go beyond Hyde Amendment, right? cause it would cut all federal funding to hospitals providing trans care? not just forcing state to cover medicaid/medicare costs?

Mine is the part where the Christian tech CEO is faced with questions about his unmanned killer drones

“Trae was building his own tech company and really facing hostility around what he was building, why he was building unmanned defense systems with Anduril,” she said.
