Or let's take some of the recent discourse. As a level designer, GenAI would try to make a level based on having looked at many other levels. AI might let me script things functionally (but roughly) and then harden it to standards, freeing myself and tech design up to do more creative/complex work.

Yeah. AI is the thing that can _actually_ make a job easier like pouring through unimaginable amounts of space telescope data to find specific patterns and/or significant events. GenAI would take that data, tell you it found aliens because it's what you want to hear, and none of it would be true.

this is what irked me the most in vincke's statement about it, that he called larian's genai usage "ml" throughout. there's a world of difference between machine learning for scientific data analysis and gen ai. there's a world of difference between gen ai and a rimworld ai narrator. and so it goes.

"AI" was always branding created to oversell the product and now genAI has poisoned the brand irrevocably for non-generatives.

If you're doing ML, CV, whatever... call it ML, CV, whatever.

If you're doing game behavior systems... call it Behavior Systems.

If you're doing genAI, go jump in a lake.

the conflation of legit ai usage with scam usage is a goal of the big tech. if you are “fighting “ ai by participating in the same conflations, then you are simply an unwitting pawn of big tech.

from speech to text, to terrain generation to exoplanet detection to protien folding.

Yes, the way things have been lumped in is upsetting. Because directed AI tools have been useful for years, and continue to advance separate from genAI art theft machines

I think some people lump them intentionally to normalize genAI & others have just stopped distinguishing because they're tired

If we’re going to get really no quarter about genAI usage, I’m going to need people to learn the difference between AI and genAI real fast.

This is also a reason I so often push local journalists and news outlets. So many national outlets are just mouthpieces for right wing billionaires. And the more local your news, the more it affects people's everyday lives. Here's a starter pack! go.blacksky.community/Np78Wud
