I mean just "dam the rivers to stop wildfires" levels of dumb
This is a bottleneck area too, with only one other north-south interstate (I-15) anywhere nearby, and it's not actually that nearby. Pendleton freeway traffic is a bastard at the best of times these days, both coming and going in San Clemente and Oceanside.
Bitch what
You’re telling me this motherfucker is going to shut down our freeway so he can shoot missiles at his own Marines base

Thank god for being 9 hours North because having to shutdown i5 in Southern California sounds like actual hell oh my god
Newsom’s office told the Los Angeles Times that it has received reports that the White House is directing a plan to use Navy ships off the California coast to fire missiles into Camp Pendleton.
I did not want to care about the Brewers, because there are plenty of reasons to dislike them, but as with so many other alliances of convenience, I got robbed of what I wanted most (a seven game series for maximum baseball).

It sucks me in and makes me care, for the most trivial reasons, about teams and/or players I wouldn't give a second look at in the regular season.

The postseason knows that there's only so much baseball left, favorite team or not, and that it can bleed me for all I've got.
I don't know if I'm built for postseason baseball.
Somehow this is going to help me with my own hot-take stretch (Dedra could have been the Minthara Baenre of Andor, but Not Really Because Kallus Already Happened). I just need to find more red string
Such a bummer. 97 wins, best record in baseball, falling apart to the sounds of the most obnoxious PA system in all the major leagues.
(I can't deal with the Davis/Smoltz TV team on this ALCS)
Perhaps I'll go find Jesse Agler's Padres triple play call from 2024 and play it on repeat for maximum cope instead of watching Milwaukee get stomped by LA.
The Toronto-Seattle series is my first introduction to the Seattle radio crew since the departure of Dave Sims to New York.

One of them (I don't know which) is definitely MUCH LOUDER WHEN THE MARINERS DO WELL.
You folks are not gonna believe this but exercise and fresh air will treat almost any internet- or discourse-related hangup.

Have some 100% real cloudless blue sky:
I definitely don't want to end up like some of my fellow ex-AIGA chapter presidents who fell through the NFT looking glass and Came Back Wrong or never seemed to come back at all. I got close to that when playing with Midjourney and once I realized it I turned around fast.
I cannot tell you how liberating it is to not have to give a shit about, like, "career paths in UX" or "the problematic aspects of design thinking" or whatever other IBM-fluffing thing Design LinkedIn is hung up on these days.
That last bit was some crucial cognititve development for me that took way too long to happen, btw. I marinated in creative snobbery at design/marketing agencies and exacerbated that when leading a design nonprofit org, because as an "expert" I felt obligated to Have Takes About "Good" Design
And so many people have seemed to make their entire online personality about slavishly boosting or reflexively hating this stuff.

But I also don't like moralizing about creativity/creative tools. I got over that when I understood that griping about fonts or logos made me look petty and arrogant.

That post is from early '23, and soon afterward I stopped using Midjourney or any other "AI" tool for fun (and I never used them on design work for clients), because I personally don't find them useful. What was once compelling to explore soon became a tiresome chore.
I've almost accepted that my take is an extreme outlier: "like everything else ever culturally litigated on social media, this topic’s been reduced to competing escalating explosions of reactionary outrage," and I’m definitely allergic to that discourse. keirdubois.com/character-de...
There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.

If this isn't the painful truth. If we could just keep this series going forever and never have to declare a winner.
If I had to complain about anything in this Mariners/Jays series is there’s no bad guys
A good album to help me get through being 19. Got my first bass guitar the same year. Several years later, my second band was named Honey White after the first song on this album. It sounds pretty good for being 30.
When they hit, the waves' impact often resembles the short sharp jolts of local earthquakes (as opposed to rollers I've experienced in other areas of the state), which is definitely an unsolicited bonus feature.
Random observation: it seems to take about 10 minutes for the shockwave of a rocket launch from Vandenberg to reach my windows in Ventura, a distance of ~90ish miles.
Earlier than me. I feel like I was only starting to not be an idiot when I was, like, 46 or 47.

(I am now almost 49 and probably still very idiotic)
I can't believe Sam Altman is only 40. I was only starting not to be an idiot when I was 40. Absurd to put so much power, global quantities of power, in the hands of so many men in their 40s (and younger!).
Rebranding discourse always makes my head hurt. Neither pros nor lays ever cover themselves in anything resembling glory.
Welp didn't have "Padres will yet again be seeking a manager this offseason" on my bingo card, but perhaps I should have
