It's great to wake up to a conference review that says "this is the most highly rated abstract in the strand" 🤩

See you in Chicago at AAAL this March, where I'll be giving talks on 1) layperson comprehensibility of jury instructions, and
2) how language attrition is defined and operationalized!

New preprint 🌟 Psychology is core to cognitive science, and so it is vital we preserve it from harmful frames. @irisvanrooij.bsky.social & I use our psych and computer science expertise to analyse and craft:

A lot of people think that every international student admitted means one fewer spot for domestic students, when the opposite is more likely true - the tuition revenue international students bring allows public universities to provide substantial discounts to domestic students, improving access.

I’ll also be co-presenting empirical work with Jenifer Larson-Hall on how L2 Spanish attriters’ spoken production changes with task repetition and input modeling (prereg: osf.io/4q6n8). Keep an eye out for our manuscript, coming (as) soon (as we can write it) 😉

Looking forward to seeing friends (and making new ones) at #SLRF2025 later this month!

I'll be presenting preliminary data from (part of) my dissertation, a preregistered scoping review of language attrition research to determine how L2 attrition/loss/decline is defined & operationalized.

Next stop: #ISB2025 (that's the International Symposium on Bilingualism, not the Star Wars one)! My poster with Scott Jarvis (on the 13th) shows variety in self-description and language experience from 50 (mostly "bilingual") participants. Take a peek at drive.google.com/file/d/1unHu....
Image (.jpg) of our ISB poster. Poster is vertical with two columns. It has a white background with a gradient dark-lighter blue header and dark blue headings. Descriptive results appear in light blue boxes with rounded edges, and qualitative excerpts appear in yellow boxes with rounded edges.
