There’s a scene where Spenser walks for miles during a blizzard to help someone because that’s who he was and that was the job in front of him. “Do the job in front of you” as an ethos isn’t bad. Doing so while assuming everyone is worthy of respect until proven otherwise is admirable

This reminds me of Christopher Schwarz’s “Make a Chair from Bullsh%$t” book at Lost Art Press. Also, is that Southern Yellow Pine?

bookshop.org/p/books/shar... Finished Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe's Trafalgar. My third or fourth fictional Trafalgar. These are a bit formulaic but enjoyable reads. Evocative of the period. I'm reading in internal chronological order, so Sharpe isn't quite _Sharpe_ yet. #booksky

My grandfather was a machinist. He had a stack of Popular Science magazines that I always made a beeline for when we visited. He took an electronics night class and later gifted me the electronics kit he used. I owe a satisfying 40 year career in CS in part to him. I only realized... 1/2

I’m hoping to visit in a couple of weeks when my wife and I are in the area. I promise to to ask about the business. I’ll likely ask about history through maps. And railroads.
