I am kind of sitting here mouth agape as I realize that the thing that really got eight Democrats to cave was a provision which provides backdoor criminal and civil immunity to them personally by making it functionally impossible to ever investigate the Senate
read the actual bill text and this is quite literally a provision designed solely to impede civil and criminal investigations into United States Senators and their staff. www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

Anecdotal, but this is what I'm hearing from everyone I've talked to (and immediately my thought). It wasn't that the dems had leverage and lost, it's that they had leverage and decided that we weren't worth it. People suffering wasn't anything to them except for a bluff that was called. Feckless.
I received this email about Democrats caving to end the shutdown from one of the SNAP recipients I spoke to:

This is all racist nonsense, but tbh the first and last things would probably be net positives for New York

Mamdani going so hard for trans right and winning is some juicy proof that every dem that abandoned us didn’t do it for politically advantageous reasons. They did it because they’re transphobes and they will lose for it

My most reasonable trade idea today is that the Lions trade a seventh round draft pick to the Vikings in exchange for Justin Jefferson. I would only do it if Minnesota continues to pay his salary. Maybe toss in Brendan Rodgers to sweeten the deal

1. This week, news emerged that former trans athlete, student at Middlebury, and advocate for trans rights, Lia Smith, was found dead.

Her death was ruled a suicide.

But I argue that it's not only a suicide. Every trans suicide is a murder by those in power.

Brian Kelley has been very successful at every stop in his head coaching career, but not a single Grand Valley, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, or Notre Dame fan refers to him with anything but ire. He also is responsible for a kid's death. Him losing in a school that hates all coaches is good

The bettors in this article assume, without evidence, that WNBA elite athletes play worse at consistent specific stages of a natural menstrual cycle that could be externally tracked. This also invokes enslavers' obsessions with enslaved women's menstruation & ignores these women's bodily agency.

Stephen Miller said the quiet part out loud. Trump has “plenary authority,” then suddenly went silent. Their plan wasn’t to be public yet. Clearly, someone hit the panic button in his earpiece.

It gets weirder: CNN uploaded the interview with the “plenary authority” comment edited out.
