Chelsea's 2024/25 season is done (sort of), and I gave Maresca a report card. You can listen/watch here, but here's the slides below.

When will Peacock start the Sunday late kickoff broadcast on time?

The real test whether it’s coin flips (my opinion) or Emery black magic, is whether historic xG underperformer Tammy Abraham pops off
My take with Villa and xG is that sometimes you really can get ten heads in a row on a coin flip and it helps when you're not leaking goals either. Also winning has its own affect that often gets dismissed in these conversations because games are not isolated discrete events.

This already exists from way back when (it matters but at a magnitude an order of magnitude smaller than Villa’s finishing pixie luck)

Not to be a big complainy baby but it is open season on Chelsea midfielders every game and if Caicedo breathes on someone it’s a booking. I truly don’t get it.

We’ve been well shit so I’ll take that

A thing I’m fairly curious about is that she generates actually very few “great” tier shots (width of the net inside the 6), but lots of good.

I wonder if that scales up with a better team who can actually generate those for you.
they mentioned that reilyn turner had the most shots of any american player last nwsl season, but for me it’s more about where she consistently takes those shots – below the penalty spot and within the width of six yard box

I’ve seen a few ice agents at the local Hispanic grocer in Reno over the past few months, I’d be lying to you if I didn’t hesitate getting out of my car this afternoon

Just saw someone get executed on the timeline, that’s enough social media for today I think

This I think is the situation to a T.

Even down to the aging/injured/maybe held on a bit too long stars.
Tho we actually feel a lot like Liverpool men. You've had a legendary, club defining manager followed by a relatively surprising league win but ultimately the rebuild has had a few too many misses and the change in tactical identity starts to bite.

I think there are valid questions to have about Bompastor, but this is just so far the least talented Chelsea team in 5-6 years for sure

Eric Ramsay continuing the bit of going MLS to Europe and just getting absolutely shithosed by finishing is pretty incredible

People asking why Montreal would bail Miami out like this.

They’re not competing with Miami and got a 7m defender with a free trial and a low option. It’s a no brainer for a bad cheap team.
I don't hate this from Montreal. Free crack at a kid who's got talent, just lacks discipline (though I question whether Montreal is the place to find that part).

It's the same principle as Seattle' getting Petkovic basically for free from Charlotte. Bet on your ability to develop young players.
🇦🇷 Sources: CF Montréal is finalizing a deal to sign Tomás Avilés from Inter Miami on loan with a purchase option.

- Montréal get low-risk addition of young CB
- Avilés fresh start/more minutes
- Miami solve U-22 problem (one had to leave)

Gambling is so anti second location now, that if I go into the sportsbook at a casino in Nevada, I am fairly frequently directed to just use the app and place the bet but do it from inside the sportsbook.
I'm firmly with Kim that gambling should have more friction from having to go to a second location.

Killing advanced data in FBref when you’ve been able to scrape Whoscored chalkboards for whatever you want since the beginning of time is the most clear proof this is gambling companies trying to improve edge in semi sharp public bettors

I flagged Sucic maybe 6-9 months ago as someone I thought could be the next global 100m midfielder and I feel pretty good about that right now.

Dude is a monster

Nice to see WoSo turn into young player transfer crackheadery very early in its development cycle
🇵🇾✈️🇺🇸 Huge news from @jeffkassouf.bsky.social:

18-year-old Claudia Martínez has joined the Washington Spirit from Club Olimpia for a $950,000 transfer fee to become the first-ever Paraguayan player in NWSL history.

With that fee, she'll be the seventh most expensive player of all time.

This is not a particularly analytical or logical opinion but nothing gives me the ick on a player more than them trying a pass with their weak foot and their weak foot being a real swinger. My ape brain would rather you try an impossible pass with the outside of your strong foot.
