There was a case where an engineer who had his contact lenses stuck on to his eye balls, because they were up all night and day working. Since it wasn't sustainable having 3 players Meituan merged with Diangping and begun to kill the 3rd which they failed and Alibaba bought it.

Diangping a reviews startup was also forced to get into the war with Meituan, both worked super hard so as the likes of Sequoia who had eyes everywhere(they invested in both)
The business model changed to food delivery with only 3 players.

I totally agree with you. It reminds me about the 1000s groupon war in China, where there were close to more than 5000 GroupOn clones and each had the scale of millions of users.

I woke up in the middle of the night with the first two lines of this poem repeating in my head. I couldn't sleep until I wrote it on my phone.
