Also a huge time sink.. to get my passport, because of a birth certificate change, it took 6 months of calling emailing, mailing (more fees), having to overnight to NYC from MA (!??!) And THEN finally paying the passport fees and going through the actual process.
It costs $130 + a $35 facility fee to obtain a passport and an extra $30 for a passport card. In California, fees for certified copies of vital records are between $18 and $31 each. How is the SAVE Act not a poll tax?

If there is one thing I cannot stand with TTRPGs, it is when ppl try to turn their preferences and aesthetics into bullshit facts or bullshit theory: "this what i like, so this is what is good."

Watching a few folks continue to dig into their "lets make loops around the 4e bingo card" in my thread from days ago while a valiant poster tries to help them make sense means they gotta go from muted to blocked.

4e annoys because it doesn't pretend that it's fighting-adventure rules are anything else and expects you to use rules as written. By not lying about itself, it fucks up the normal D&D process of pretending that it's good for other things, which pretence is *self-fulfilling* via quiet rulings.

This week I saw the same game played by strangers, in my classroom, & my new gaming group. My local group also played two games that are structurally very similar, so the differences became really striking.

When people are talking about chaining different TTRPG systems together to form a larger, more complex narrative, you can literally do that by playing Breaking the Ice then Shooting the Moon then Under My Skin with the same(-ish) set of characters. The Romance Trilogy.
