I'll be honest; I generally think the ability to graciously take a "no" without chasing or argumentation is one of the most important skills one can develop... at PaxU it helped me focus on getting our games to the people who wanted them, rather than fixating on those who didn't.

So when I tell people about Community Radio, I lead with the pitch with "improv-heavy" so people can opt out. And similar with Wildfire Trilogy, which is a much smaller and narrower lane.

I really feel that being fine with people not liking my games was a huge factor in having a good time!

My games are accessible and fun to play, but they aren't for everyone! It's IMO useless ans a waste of everyone's time to pretend otherwise. If you can't appreciate improv, Community Radio is not. Your. Game.

And that's cool! It's not a problem with you, or the game.

... it was that moment when you could see that the concept or this game was absolutely for them. Its difficult to describe what a cool feeling that is.

I wasn't really trying to "sell" ppl games as much as I tried to concisely describe a game to let them know if it is for them.

One fun thing at Pax was describing The Wildfire Trilogy. Many people upon hearing the pitch were left cold. Not a problem, because for those who it was for, you could see their faces instantly light up, and they very consistently bought it thereafter. But the buying wasn't the point...

Ooooooo
Blood of the Covenant is a game about mercy and justice, about trying to uphold conflicting ideals, about authority and power and how we use it. Angels guide a lone knight through a quest, oaths are made and broken, and the sword hangs over it all. Available in playtest edition now.

It's very satisfying to have done enough game design work that sometimes I get to steal ideas from myself.

I'm on booth E15, just behind Chaosium. Come and say hello. Here's an amazing map of where I am by @jogbrogzin.bsky.social.

The Oops! All Himbos Blunder Road show was the highlight of my PAX U. It's so inspiring that something I helped write could inspire so many top/bottom jokes.

Rather than use it to (for example) use Renaissance paintings to support a Renaissance story, I am building something that supports you using those same paintings to tell a cyberpunk story.

Going all the way back to Everway, ive always been fascinated with ways to use the visual arts to build story.

You can always use it representational, but what I am building now is a way to use it obliquely, allowing for fruitful collisions and juxtapositions.

One of the things that excites me is that a gallery can use space (physical or virtual) and visual art to create a uniquely textured source of inspiration for storytelling.
November 24, 2025 at 1:12 PM
I love it. Thank you!

The "gallery game" will also include ways to make your own virtual and RL galleries in your home, but the event itself will be run in an actual art gallery (my *favorite* art gallery ). Very excited.
