Updated my own ref a bit; the old pelt view was very muddled, haha! Nothing’s really changed, same old mutt.
A reference sheet for a lanky grey coyote named Kisota, with gold eyes, goldish tan legs, dark markings and a dark tipped tail. The left ear has a triangular notch.

"I Contain Multitudes"

This digitally painted piece honors coyote by tracing its lineage from the first cells of life to the animal trotting our cities and the wilderness today.

The thread gives descriptions of all the extinct organisms shown in this piece (not to scale)
This digitally painted piece honors the survivor spirit of the coyote by tracing its lineage from the first cells of life to the animal trotting our landscapes today. Below the horizon, carefully chosen ancestors mark pivotal moments in adaptation, each contributing to the form and survivor we see today. Above the horizon, Coyote stands alert at the center, framed by both Denver’s skyline and a mountain backdrop, symbols of their ability to thrive in cities as well as wilderness. Embedded in the ground are the skulls and bones of carnivores whose lineages ended long ago, emphasizing Coyote’s persistence in contrast.

Highly sympathize, perhaps empathize. It’s so impossible to talk about this stuff, especially out loud, because it sounds so damn ridiculous.

“Prairie Life”

An older piece with even older origins. My undergraduate years included significant research and exploration time in short-grass prairie ecosystems. These are the organisms and places I still love and cherish from a formative time in my scientific journey. Sacred. (Check alt text)
A black-billed magpie, common raven, American kestrel, coyote, pronghorn, prairie rattlesnake, Ord’s kangaroo rat, sharp-tailed grouse, and short-horned lizard intertwine and encircle a scene showing the Pawnee Buttes. A golden eagle flies in the sky above the buttes. A red-tailed hawk tail feather and a sprig of sagebrush trail into smoke swirls that wind between the upper animal portraits.

It’s paper mache, either built up directly on paperboard, foil, and tape armatures, or built over a form I’d already made!

TW: blood

The great migration in Africa is happening where the herds chase the rain and traverse across the land and over the rivers to find greener land. These migrations are important to not only the carnivores and scavengers that feed on them but the land that is nourished by their corpses
