I love Phil’s books, especially the Merrily Watkins series, and was so sad when he died last year. His final Merrily book is coming out next month.

I …. a to be read pile with only 8 books in it is, as far as I’m concerned, a very well managed pile indeed. I don’t count mine. I only worry when the physical one gets dangerous!

How is saying “this person is a convicted stalker” gossip ffs? That’s just sharing a fact. Those writers have the self preservation instincts of a concussed lemming.

I’m sorry Soph, you don’t deserve that sort of treatment. Sending hugs.

Thanks. I adore them and Wales is a treasure trove of close encounters.

Belated #TheSmallThings #SpreadingJoy because I spent a long weekend in Wales for my bestie’s 40th birthday and it completely slipped my mind. Have views galore and a - fairly impressive for a phone camera - shot of one of many Red Kites I’ve seen about the place #birds 🪶
Trig point on Twyn y Gaer in Bannau Brycheiniog in wildly changeable weather. The trig point is a white flat topped pyramid with a Welsh Dragon painted on each side, surrounded by a muddy puddle. The hills beyond are a patchwork quilt of fields and the sky is a whorl of clouds and hints of blue. Llangors Lake at dawn with the crannog just left of centre and the start of Bannau Brycheiniog in the background. The sky is steaks of grey white cloud and china blue, reflecting in the lake surface which is also tinted gold by the rising sun on the ripples made by the ducks. The top of the viewing hut for the crannog behind a swathe of bulrushes and other reeds, with Bannau Brycheiniog in the background, Cefn Cyff glowing in the dawn light. The sky looks like watercolour paint swirling in water, shades of grey and blue and purple and gold dripping through each other. A red kite in flight against a blue sky hazy with faint grey cloud. The kite has their wings fully lifted so their red body, white head and underwing markings - red to black with a white patch on the top half - are clearly visible.

the answer to the trolley problem is not to pick who to sacrifice, it’s to dismantle the system that led to an unsafe trolley crossing.

if any part of your morality strategy involves picking a group to let die on a hill, throw the entire strategy out. it’s wrong.

Thank you so much, it’s so very kind.

The NHS booking system wouldn’t let me book. The GP surgery said carers weren’t included when I asked and so did the pharmacy. When I mentioned the green book - because you kindly told me about it last year - they said the new advice for this year overruled it.

I paid again for that, just the flu free!

I too have never made it and feel you are correct about this being the right time of year to try!

Good thank you! About to pack the car and head to Wales for @catthegeek.bsky.social’s birthday celebrations

They’re all original and complete pieces created specifically for the book, so stories, essays and poems - 43 in all.

My copy of The Book of Bogs - edited by Anna Chilvers and @clareshawpoet.bsky.social - has arrived from @littletollerbooks.bsky.social and look how lovely this important book looks! And it’s full of wonderful work from fantastic authors, too.
Front cover of The Book of Bogs, featuring the stunning artwork called Autumn Comes To Walshaw Dean by Angie Rogers. I am holding the book in my left hand and the nail varnish on my thumbnail, a russet brown colour, matches the colourway of the bog depicted.

I just paid £85 for mine so I don’t put my parents, who I care for full time, at more risk (thankfully they do qualify). I’m trying to feel grateful the NHS still give me the flu jab for free but yeah, it all feels very paltry and wrong.

Hope you’re feeling better today! Xx
